Anywhere I can find some instructions on how to use RED RUSHES or is it pretty straight ahead?

Funny how this software gets released (REDCINE, REDALERT) with no instructions...

Or did I miss the memos?

Not trying to be ingrateful... :-)

For the most part I've found it to be pretty straight forward.

That said I can't seem to get it to read the RSX file and output using the look I created in Red Alert. Maybe a bug, maybe I'm doing something wrong.

REDrushes was a last minute addition. It is pretty self-explanatory.

Try deleting the RSX and setting the look again.

Absolutely! It's quite intuitive – do Mac-users read manuals at all ?

I'm very impressed that I can now fire up all my cores on an Octo with it, really speeding up things.

Thank you for such a great last minute addition!

can someone explain what the deal is with Red Rushes, besides the obvious? I see how awesome it is and makes everything easier too, but is it also a lot faster than using Redcine to do the transcode? Is that the main thing that is sweet about it, the improved speed for rendering? I don't mean because you just press a button and go instead of the long process of settings in Redcine, I just mean the processing once the render starts going.

Dylan,

This software is deadsimple and it works. If you need any more info PM me and I can give you a call.

Um, I'm seeing some considerable performance boosts in a transcode to Pro Res HQ with Full Res debayering on an 8-core 2.8ghz Mac Pro.

Awesome.

Yeah I haven't gotten into it yet, only did a quick transcode the night they released it just to see what the program was, and I did it at quarter res etc just to get it going fast and watch the quicktime movie.

I look forward to Full debayer transcodes !

:nerd:

Is there a quality difference between doing this and using RedCine for transcoding? It's the same, right? Red Cine just gives you more control.

pretty straight ahead?

Okay, looks pretty straight ahead?

What is the "look source" tab all about? Can I apply one of the looks I've created (RSX files) to the clip when I transcode it? I can't seem to figure it out.

The only option when I try to "add a clip" is R3D files? The RSX's are grayed out.

How do I get the RSX in to the mix?

See my other thread on "look files made easy".

Thanks.

How many clips in a large batch?
Is it crashing on a particular file?

Email me the crash log under:
Macintosh HD/Library/Logs/CrashReporter

This little application rocks...i guess my only question is the same as Dylan's -- will we ever be able to apply the same RSX metadata across a batch...or do we still need to open RedAlert for each clip, and manually input the data, to create a new RSX for each clip? There's the rub.

Is there a way to do this already, transfer uniform metadata among clips?

If not, does RED have plans to enable that capability any time soon?

That, plus audio, would be the killer. I can make many of my smaller projects with just a one light correction, imported into FCP, and this has the potential to build a new efficiency into that process. Especially if we can batch encode uniformly across the data files.

Nice addition to the family. I'm slightly frustrated, because it stops just a notch or two short of excellence. But I'm hoping that RED has some plans to grow this infant into a big, strapping handsome adolescent soon.

Thanks, Deanan, for adding another tool to the toolbox.
