Here You go - the battery-powered "Pocket Rocket":

Excuse the rough surface finish - this is the first working prototype...

 Peter

Mmm much better, lot slimmer!
So is there gonna b two models?

Ahh, nice, this one is also good.

I'll take ten of those to sell in Japan.

It would be nice if the battery helps the power for MBP, is that possible?

If they could make something like that, but with a few full size hard drives inside instead I would buy one!

Thats a great idea as i suppose the expresscard esata cards can't be used with this system.
But anyways, would there be enough bandwith on the 1x pciexpress bus to add anything? The fact that this works at all is already amazing.

Apple needs to put out MBP's with more than 1 expresscard slot (yeah we know that's gonna happen) :(

AMAZING!!!

How much and when will it be available?
Is this a Red product or third party?

Also wondering would the R3D files have to be on the local HDD? I mean trying to play back from an external connected via FW800/400 or USB wouldn't have the band width to read the files for real time or would it?
Although the acceleration happens on the Rocket and the Rocket has a whole 2.5gb per second Express lane to itself will the FW ports be able to sustain a real time read of files?

I'm sure many have been waiting for this.

Not to speak for Peter. but this is a 3rd party app that will be offered by Maxx Digital. He is still determinign pricing, had to make sure it worked first... more details will come in time. And he did all this in a week or two so far. cheers!

NO, They need to add e-sata ports to the Macbook Pro Models.

Well I was talking to the manager down in the Apple centre here in Singapore and she says no high chance on any of that happening, extra express card slots or e-sata ports just because the majority of people that apparently buy it, don't even know what either of those things are for!

Similarly I asked for e-sata drives, they don't sell it because no one realizes what they are for, they are quite happy with the current speeds of their Firewire 800 and so on.

Its a real shame too...next model I have to buy has to a 17" now :(

On the note of the thread though! I really really want one Pocket Rocket...!!!
