RED Rocket won't display video in REDCINE-X_356

I've used the RED Rocket (RR) in the past without any issues. Now, the card has been moved to a new box (both of them we're MacPros) and it seems that something had gone awry.

I'm running REDCINE-X_build_356 and the RR with Driver: 1.3.5.0 and Firmware: 1.1.10.2. What is happening (or rather NOT happening), is that I can open the .r3d files in my browser and move them to my bin but when I drag them to my viewer, it stays black. I can't play the video, scrub or anything. It WILL however, play the audio from the clip (and it will say at the bottom of the viewer that it's playing back around '1 fps').

What's even more peculiar is that if the clip has a meta data look applied to it, I can drag it to the viewer (still with no video showing up when I do so), then reset the clip to default in the 'Look Control' panel. When I do this, the thumbnail in my bin will actually reflect the changes I made in the 'Look Control' panel but I still can't see any video.

I'v tried every conceivable combination of REDCINE-X builds and RR Driver/Firmware updates to no avail; this includes going back to the previous release of REDCINE-X and RR Drivers/Firmware. And yes, I'm sure I installed the Driver/Firmware in the correct way/order. I've only found one other online who's had a similar issue, but that thread didn't lead to a solution.

ANY help would be amazing! Thanks!

I had the same exact thing happen yesterday.
It's the new Mac OSX update .... something a bit buggy.
Re-install both RR driver and firmware and you'll be back up and running.
I just did this last night.

I checked my 'About This Mac' and I was running 'OSX 10.6.4'. I installed the most recent OS update, reinstalled the Red Rocket Driver and Firmware then rebooted. The problem still exists.

I rebooted once more just for good measure. That time, when I dragged a clip from my bin to the viewer, I saw a bunch of scrambled green lines with a few red lines sprinkled in.

I then deleted REDCINE-X and manually deleted the drivers, reinstalled the RR Drivers/Firmware, rebooted my system and installed a fresh copy of REDCINE-X_356. Still nothing... I've even done a 'Repair Disk Permissions' for kicks and giggles.

Ive been having this exact same problem. RED-Support advised flipping a switch on the card itself and booting it up in safe mode, but Ive been on back to back jobs and havent had a chance to try it out yet.

Brandon, is it a First or Second Gen MacPro Tower?
RR has problems if you're running a 1st or 2nd Gen MacPro with OSX 10.6.
If it is, you can go back to 10.5 and it'd work perfectly.
Another thought would be to disconnect the tower from it's power source for a couple minutes, and while it's down, go ahead and check that the
RR card is seated in there properly. Sometimes, just the hard re-set of Power on the tower will clear this issue up.

Good luck

Same thing happened with me today. I have OSX 10.6.6. Haven't updated anything since starting this job, and yesterday everything worked fine. Today, same symptoms as OP. Sent logs and profile to RCX team, and I'll post for all what I got back, but I just pulled and reseated the card, re-installed Rocket Driver and firmware, and deleted and re-installed RCX356. Seems to be back to 'normal' now.

whatever. I'm convinced there's issues with my Rocket card, as I've had issues in the past on another feature and sent it in, the whole nine yards, of course no problem was found, but it's always an issue with the Rocket card, as we've thrown it into other systems and they instantly go wonky in weird and different ways.

I'll try what was suggested if I have time on location and if it keeps happening. I had no issues doing a software-only preview and transcode. Here's what I got from the RCX team:

Did today's footage have any problems transcoding in software mode?

Also might be worth trying the latest version:

I've been having the same problem. OSX 10.6.7. Had the problem on 356, 449, and 452. Sometimes if I restart the mac it works again but not every time. I've also checked the card physically and everything seems fine. Help?

Update: The way I get Redcine-x to work now is to start power then launch Redcine-x, try to open a clip, it fails and then crashes. Fully shutdown the computer (restarts don't work) unplug the power and power up. This seems to work now, all other options of restarting and shutting down without unplugging have failed.
