So my red rocket just stopped working after very little use. Now Red wants 3k to fix it! What are they going to do for 3k?

Has anybody else had this problem, feeling very frustrated with quality of the product at this point.

1 year. Some people are asking for an Armour style extended warranty program since it's such an expensive item.

I have used mine for 3 years solidly without an issue so it's not like they are inherent issues. Having said that I would be bummed if had to spend another $3k on it...

There must be hundreds of Rockets out there and a small percentage have had rotten luck.

This is probably a stupid question on my part...

You mentioned that it had very little use - do they come with any sort of warranty period?

$3k!!! Holy Crap, did they just sell you a new one or what? Scary stuff makes me never want to update it.

Yesterday at the GENIUS BAR Apple wanted to charge me $175 to "replace" my old iPhone 3G with a reconditioned one.

I bought the 3G on Craigslist last year for $65!

As I've said before RED RULES!

Hi Adam, how did the problem get sorted?

I've read so many reports of Rockets dying that its seems to be a major risk of $4750. Card's shouldn't just die.

Generally they don't, but we have no idea how the card was handled or any of the circumstances so no need to jump to conclusions. I have 3 Rocket Cards, 2 Red versions and one from DVS (who makes the Red card). The DVS card is at least 4 years old and the Rockets are several years old and they have worked flawlessly (knocking on wood), sometimes 24 hrs a day 7 days a week. So lets not assume this is bigger than it is.

not assuming anything, just going on what reports I have read which have been quite a few people reporting cards dying even though they are super careful.

I keep seeing more and more reports....

well actually you have assumed from this one post
a- they were "super careful" (in your words)
b- that this card failed
how do you know they were "super careful" and that this isnt operator error?

Im not trying to say it wasnt either, but my point is we have no idea.

well okay there is some assumption on my part as I expect people handling a PCIe card to know what they are doing, especially one that costs close to $5k

Not one post but...

I agree with you that we have no idea but based on the reports it seems there are issues with cards failing for no reason and Red saying the only fix is to pay for a replacement at $3k.

hopefully its isolated issues, my Rockets are indispensable...cant do without them.

BTW- The Rockets are made by DVS, which is a realy quality manufacture. The cards have been around for a long time now and are installed in most LA facilities (in DVS Clipsters). They are a proven product.

it happened to me as well , i have 2 card that broke
luckily one was still under warranty , but the other one was not , so i had to pay (and they get to keep the broken one)

it's a shame that they charge that much money to get another one and they cannot fix the card
warranty should be 3 years on those things
