Since most other threads got way off topic, I am starting a new thread on the progression of the RED Rocket and the software that supports it.

RED, when possible, can you give us an update on the development of Red Rocket and software.

thanks
Colin

A release is almost ready to go out. Just waiting on some changes to external libraries.

Is there any reason I shouldn't use the Red RocketCine X to do DNXHD conversions with the options currently available in Red RocketCine X? Besides not having an ALE?

Any chance RocketCine could read 3D Lut Files in future, that would open a whole lot more use especially for dailies.

more than a chance. but doubtful it will be rocketCine-X.

when REDCine-X hits, it will have third party plugin support, so it will grow like crazy with all kinds of features. i suspect many LUT management plugins will come online for it.

i myself am hoping that RED has prioritized the need for stable, reliable look management that can be transferred to and from camera, and accurately inserted into any software powered by their SDK.

Saw your question on a couple of threads.

The DNXHD conversion currently offered by Red Rocket/Rocketcine X is wrapped in a quicktime and requires an extra ingest stage to get into the Avid (via ALE).

That's why we are all hoping for the R3D - MXF option which is iminent.

Guys, it's been over 10 days since a legitimate response from RED, over $5000.00 for a card, that has limited use at this point is disappointing. I thought there was a new philosophy at Red about pushing stuff out that is ready to go, not having us sit on our hands praying for some kind of news.

Please provide some accurate information on the progress of this product, a one line "It's coming" comment just adds to the frustration.

The response is still the same: waiting on a third party library to be updated before we can release the next build.

Any indication as to the following would help us make the correct decision in a very tricky spot (deadline) we're in:

A) Will the next version have "Fit To Height" enabled
B) Will we see it in the next 4 - 6 days?

We're in a bit of a jam with the "Fit to height" missing.

Jack,

What is it that you need to do, because even though there is no fit to height, you can still customize your output resolution?

Fit to Height and Audio over HD-SDI would be great.

REDLINE intergration would b amazing.

Jeremy,

I also had that thought - to output a 2160x1080 file and then running it through compressor to "batch crop" the files to 1920x1080 - but, even though I can make a "render template" with a 2160x1080 size, ROCKETCINE-X won't render anything out at that rez (no file is generated - and since there is no progress bar, it's kind'a hard to figure out what's going on) - it will only generate a file at one of the preset resolutions.

Also, I'm wondering about the compressor part of the plan... does compressor maintain a true 10 bit path when cropping a 10 bit file and writing a new one?

Any thoughts.

Thanks

Jack

sounds like they are waiting on APPLE to me... and from what I remember on those 50 page threads... most these features requested above WILL be included in the next build.

Colin- We have used our RR for onset rushes and transcoding to Prores4444 pretty much flawlessly... sure would be nice to have more features, but so far we are happy as hell
with this baby for transcoding alone.
