What exactly is the workflow to get RED files to playback RT in AE 10.0.1? Is RT performance supported and if so at what resolutions off a RED Rocket Card? I've enabled the RED Rocket Card in source settings and my playback is extremely slow at 1/4 res. I'm on a MacBook Pro core i7 2.66GHz with Mobile Rocket enclosure. The footage is on a external G-RAID drive connected via firewire. Mac OSX 10.6.4 with 4GB of RAM. Also do RED presets show in AE?

The red rocket is not used for RT playback in AE. It's only used for speeding up rendering. I know...I was hoping for some RT capabilities as well. Actually I would be happy if Adobe successfully implements SDI out from the RED rocket (I think they are working on it)

Thanks Maz,

Do RED presets show when starting a new composition?

AE has no realtime playback capability outside of ram preview. Rocket will mostly speed up renders in AE. SDI on the Rocket is very tricky and we might not make any attempts at it after a nice discussion with Rob. Think of it this way we ask the Rocket to get us a frame, we pull it off the rocket and push it to Cuda, we do all the cuda stuff. Then to get it out the SDI on the rocket we have to push it back to the rocket. This will kill performance. Again we are doing a bunch of testing with the Nvidea SDI daughter card and seeing some great things. More info will be on blog posts once we finish our testing.

Cheers

Dave

are sure about speaking about AE in CUDA? :emote_popcorn:

I agree with David. Going out of rocket->memory->GPU->memory->rocket adds up alot of extra time.

I think the requested feature is really based on just viewing on the rocket while doing the source settings in its window.. just hint the rocket to out put what's going on.. so we can see the image on an output monitor while adjusting the source settings on a bigger screen than the small window available now..
we only see the raw output with settings we are doing not through the host app so you don't have to do take a circle for proccessing the data..

On last years 8 core I can drag a 4k 16x9 clip into a 1080 comp and ram it up a lot faster then realtime using half res which is very nice.

Sometimes when I drag Red footage into my project I get a codec not supported msg and then I do it again and it's OK.

If you have the Use 1 Rocket checked in your interpret footage it will stay checked for all footage, nice, I was worried you might have do that for each clip.

I talked with Rob on this.. We could do this but we are concerned it would be confusing... You would only get SDI out in one simple use case. With another SDI solution we can make sure all paths work including the setting window and the timeline. I am interested in feedback here however.

I think the more universal solution would be going out through an I/O card, like AJA or BM, for monitoring and just doing the decode on the RR. A simple HD Decklink is pretty cheap compared to the NVidia solution and it will work both for Windows and OS X.

thanks for testing...

in that case would be possible then to integrate the source settings window inside the layout of premiere or AE? and CUDA in AE?
