Hi,

Does anybody know which debayer engine is used in RED Rocket™ ?

Is it from Red Alert ?, Redcine ? or any other engine ?

Thanks

Antoine

My guess is its neither- probably a reverse-engineering of what the camera does to encode.

First of all, the camera doesn't enode the bayer pattern, that's the native data format off the sensor. It does compress, however that's not what the OP asked.

Anyway... reverse engineering implies trying to dismantle you don't have knowledge to determine how it works, so then you can build your own version.

RED doesn't need to do that, they have the source code for the debayer they have used in all their products. And as far as I know, they have striven to have the SAME debayer in each product... or as improvements are made in the engine (i.e.- the new color sciennce stuff), rolling that improved engine in to the latest version of it's products.

I would expect that the Rocket debayer and that of an udated software-only app (Redcine-X, etc...) to be identical. Well, excpet for that "wooshing" sound as the RGB frames fly out of the rocket.

If this is true, then why do we see different results from different apps ?

So sorry to have mispoken there champ. I'll be sure to keep it canned in the future.

Mosty likely the switch from CPU to GPU rendering. Matching the two is extremely difficult. Not even Filmlight have managed it with the recent change to GPU rendering.
