As the inevitable release date for the Epic and Scarlet draws closer, I am left wondering wether or not it will be possible to call into RED to personally collect our new equipment?

The reason I am asking is duty and taxes on this equipment coming into NZ is going to be rather large and prohibitive. However, at times we can get cheap airline tickets to LA etc which would make a trip to the store to collect and bring the equipment back as "baggage" a viable proposition, bypassing the customs and taxation ( min of 15% of value )

Many professionals travel with their equipment paying only for the extra case (approx $50) and only IF they are over the baggage allowance. This would be a great work around.....

So, any RED stores in our future?

Well, the problem is that this would be illegal, as in: tax fraud.

Also, next time you would want to take your equipment out of your country, you would not be able to get a carnet, since the paperwork was missing.

Insurance might be problematic.

You'd have to pay Californian Sales Tax.

If you are a business, you can re-claim the vat.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for feedback! The way I was thinking was I am a permanent USA resident, but currently working and living in NZ. I realize I would have to pay Cal taxes on the purchase, but if I packed my equipment into equipment cases and took them back to NZ with me, these cases would simply be "baggage".

I can insure the contents etc all above board, and technically the goods would be "personal" and therefore not subject to the import duty into NZ. No fraudulent attention here just a thought...

I'm from France, but I think every company has some special features, no one knows about.

For exemple, Air France doesn't charge for what's inside sports bags.
Get a nice and big golf case and you can even put a jib inside.
You pay only the extra weight... with Air France.

Aren't these sort of like TAX LOOPHOLES? I'm all for NOT giving my money to my silent partner in any fashion i can come up with that is not out right fraud---like forgetting to add a zero to my gross profit. Or perhaps forging documents
