  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Rental Nightmare...

By the way did you mark your Red Drive with three dots like the batteries too? And did the other Red owner have his own gear labelled?)

The drive was labeled, the batteries were not.... Not all of his equipment was labled, obviously not his drive because no one knows where it came from and he denies it came from him... So, this older generation drive just showed up out of no where and my drive vanished....

This rental opportunity came up very fast, I scrambled to label everything as fast as I could.. I could have done a better job..

Paint can be taken off, lables and be heated up and removed.. I will soon engrave my stuff before I rent my gear out to people I don't know..

A digital camera is also a useful tool. Just prior to delivery, while everything is bundled neatly, a couple digital shots is a good way to profile and catalog your kit. And is a good visual reference in the case of any problems.

Great advice.....

I would love it......

Can you just use hard drive diagnostic or utilities to un-erase content?
If drive was not hard formatted there you will see some old directory entries with file names that comes from a different camera.
I don't expect guy to be so smart and format with FF fill in the whole drive.
It takes forever to do it.

If it was brand new drive of yours then you will see only FF FF FF all the way to the end right after the current project. If it is his drive you will see some A00X_C00X coming from his shots.

Sorry to hear that Dan. I'll be starting to rent my own stuff out soon, and I appreciate you posting a thread like this.

It's harder for individuals to rent and be protected. Rental Houses, of course, are set up to deal with situations like this, (not that they want to).

Out of curiosity did you have them sign a rental agreement? If not, does anyone know of an agreement that you can find online?

No rental agreement but an invoice of was signed..

Red has the drive... Hopefully they'll find something that tells us more..

Just a note. All hard drives have a serial number that can be found by going to "About this computer" on the MAC and looking at the mounted RED RAID. Copy this number down some where safe and engrave your drive with a few of the numbers from this serial number. Also does anyone do a diagnostic on your RED drive before it goes out? Looking for latency issues or fragment issues?
Cheers
