  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Raven Footage

the resolution is 3840 by 1608, not sure what compression settings or what vimeo compression has been added. Would wild guess the frame rates are between 80 and 120 as ravens max fps at 4.5k is 120, unless they have upscaled, which I would expect them to have mentioned as the video is labeled "4.5k"

Does anyone know if there's something new shot with a Raven? It's depresing that Carrion is the only thing out there to show the camera's look. DJI announced two days ago a new drone and they had several projects shot with it ready for the audience, wish Red would do something similar.

People keep asking this question. It's the dragon sensor. It looks like anything else you've seen shot with the dragon sensor on any DSMC2 body, only the FoV is more narrow as per whatever lens you use. That's it.

yeah and at 4khd, the raven, scarlet-w and weapon will all be identical.
the footage is going to be good when its in good hands, get the scarlet if you need PL, if not, i feel the raven is the best deal.

Not completely true. Most Weapon videos you see are going to be 6K, which will have a finer noise structure than the Raven. For people like me, interested to see how the Raven handles shadows, "is there new footage? is still a question of some interest.

Thanks Jordan, I won't be needing PL glass anytime soon. I shoot completely EF. My thought was upgradability and the Raven is lacking that. Also how much cleaner the slow motion will look on the Scarlet-W vs. the Raven. I am guessing it will be negligible if not being viewed on a high res screen.

yeah its going to be the same in slow motion because i dont think the scarlet-w does high speed in 5k.
dont worry about upgrading, get what is the best deal now for what you need.
one, you can always sell your pkg in a year, and jarred mentioned the raven may go up in price, plus the upgrade path for a scarlet-w is probably just going to be a discount on something in a couple of years, i doubt they will be putting a 6 or 8k sensor in that body.

Thanks for the info. Yeah once I read that post about the price increase I put in my pre-order ASAP! (Feb.6) It will be a while before I see my Raven but I am stoaked to be joining the RED team.
I put a pre-order in at NAB for the Ursamini46 but I bet I will get my Raven before that! Blackmagic is a mess! I plan on selling my Ursamini46 the Second I get it and hopfully make a little extra $$$. I am #7 in line at Adorama.
Wish I would of put in a Raven order earlier :(

I've said other times that if you want to see what Raven looks like, just tune in an Epic Dragon to the same settings/specs and try it out.
