Hello, I've read an article where is mentioned the Autofocus on Red Raven. The article says : "The electronic EF lens mount is a thing of beauty. Unlike the other higher end REDs this camera only ships in Canon EOS fit. It has a two stage locking mechanism that comprises a release button and a rotating locking collar which really holds the lens securely. Quite why Canon don’t do this as standard with their C100 and C300 models is beyond me. With the Raven there is no annoying lens wriggle of the kind you get with some other cameras. The extra security of the locking collar makes it much easier to use follow or remote focus too.Because the mount is electronic you gain full control of the lens iris and also autofocus. I tested a couple of lenses including a Tokina 100mm and a Canon 50mm f1.8. These allowed you to change iris with no problems. If you want manual iris control you can always use adapted Zeiss CP2, ZF, Samyang or vintage glass instead. The autofocus is a contrast detection type and works much like the system on the original C300 or C100. In low light it struggles, and you shouldn’t expect the zippy performance of Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF on the C300 mkII. It is, however, nice to have AF on the Raven as an option." A lot of people told me that there’s no Autofocus on Raven, but this article tells the opposite. Can we have a list of lenses that support Autofocus on Raven? There’s a list somewhere? I’ve understand that Canon Lenses EOS are supported, also the STM ones (they have silent autofocus)?. Thanks

There is an autofocus on all RED cameras, at least with EF mount. Somewhere there is a list of supported lenses (try the latest manual) but, if I am not mistaken, you can also program any auto lens that this not on the list. There are several focus options in RED firmware, some more practical than others.

The autofocus is not great to "chase" a moving object. I find it works well to set focus before I shoot and it even works well for pre-set focus racks. And, you can work with pulling focus from an application like Foolcontrol but I haven't personally fiddled with that for awhile and can't vouch for the state of advancement. Again, probably better with setting focus and pre-setting various focus points.

Bottom line - autofocus on Raven is likely to be a helpful feature in many situations.

Thanks Terry, I've found on DSMC OPERATION GUIDE: WEAPON just the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM, other are all USM (with no Silent Autofocus), there are some with no diciture if they are STM or USM, maybe they are part of STM family?

I don't know much about the STM lenses but on p.107, of the newest RED Weapon operation guide, it gives instructions on how to calibrate any lens that is compatible with the camera's lens mount. For Raven this would, of course, be Canon lenses. This capability should cover what you want.

So on the Raven (or Scarlet W) will not work the 18-135 STM? I read the manual pdf now, but looks complicated to set the lens....
