Red Ramp Up Time?

Hi there,

We are just about to invest in a Red One and wondered if anyone could give us an indication of how long we should allow to get used to using this gorgeous piece of genius.

We currently shoot on Sony Z5s, mostly corporate work, and we know that using the Red requires a whole new set of skills and mindset but any advice on making the transition to Red from video in terms of learning time would be greatly appreciated.

Surely there must be other Red users who have come from a video background who can share some pearls of wisdom????

No simple answer.

Main differences I found were the weight (it is REALLY heavy) and the need for precise focus.

The monitor is much better than any video cam I had previously used.

Hey Antony, thanks for the reply.

Useful to know the weight difference and the precise focus. Mind you, we hardly ever use AF on our cams to be honest. Do you have the LCD and an EVF or just the LCD?

In terms of the precise focusing, do you use a follow focus like the Arri FF5-HD or do you just use the ring?

How does the Red perform in low light?
