Can someone please help me understand the Red Ram drive? what exactly does it do?

Records media from the Red camera...it is your film stock. It is Solid State Drives (SSD) as opposed to spinning disks in the less expensive Red Drive

Is it more reliable? The price difference is huge and it records much less time. So when and why shoot with this over the Red Drive?
