BASE PRODUCTION PACK

Includes:
• (1) UNIVERSAL MOUNT $125.00
• (1) RED HANDLE $250.00
• (1) BOTTOM PLATE $600.00
• (1) SHOULDER DOVETAIL $550.00
• (1) TOP MOUNT $250.00
• (1) TOP HANDLE $150.00
• (1) RED CRADLE $750.00
• (2) 18-inch STEEL RODS $110.00

Is all this really necessary?

Or are a few of them useless after all? Which?

one red handle unit.. is it right or left?

There is no single answer to your question. It all depends what and how you are trying to shoot. If you are configuring for an underwater shoot in a housing, most of those items are useless. In most other uses, most of the items are mandatory. You really need to configure your Red based on the lenses, head, FF, matte box, steadicam, jib and all other items that you need for your shoot.

For that great package price that RED is giving those away, you would have to take quite a few bits away before you´d start saving.

So: Unless you never plan to use a follow focus, mattebox or shoulder rig, and you are on a budget, I think this is a no-brainer...

Agreed. Great value to get a long way in a short time. If you go the ET route, most of this is redundant, but it is MUCH more expensive.

It Depends on how quick you want to move to the arri baseplate, i spent more money on 15mm items. I'm glad I didnt buy the base pack I couldn't use anything from it.
