Hey guys! Im currently looking for some information about the RPZ 18-85.

Not trying to start a debate about the lens, just trying to figure out peoples personal opinions and what not, and if you have links to footage I would love to see it.

Im currently interested in the lens and I want to see what people who have experience with it, would say about it.

Thanks!:cheers2:

Hi Michael,

If you check the recent cml archives, there is a good discussion of this lens. (In fact it was my lens that Art was shooting with on the 5 MX shoot we did that week.)

I have one and I'm very happy with it. I think it's very good value for the money.

It's big, it's heavy, (relatively) but it makes nice pictures.

If you get one get the Opitek support ring, I have the Duclos which isn't bad, but I've shot with the other support and like it better.

Steve

Thanks for the information Steve!

I know there is a Prime vs Zoom market out there. Do you prefer primes over zooms normally?

Also, where are the cml archives located?

The RPZ 18-85 is a fantastic zoom with a great range,
Easily an all in one lens if I was to only have one lens this would be the one.

We did not take it on our American tour because of size and weight limitations
but I am regretting it already... I love this lens, and you will see me
Intercutting it with Master Primes and the Red Pro Primes
as well as the little Pro brother the 17-50.

Thanks Ketch. 6 thousand for a battle tested is a steal on this lens. I don't own a red right now, but I have my money together for my Epic-S, im just waiting for Jim to take reservations.

I think this is the lens im going to go for. I think its a better deal then buying Nikon Primes or Canon Primes, and most certainly Nikon and Canon Zooms.

Would I have to put a PL adapter on it, or does it come with one already?

Awesome. Im 95% sure that im going to get this lens.

Got any footage on vimeo that you captured using the lens?
