  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED PRO PRIMES due for imminent update?

Second that. They won't be announcing anything before. Why spoil the fun?! ;)

Of course Jim will take on Canons glass. Why? Market share, profit, & perhaps most importantly, there is a void to be filled for glass that is faster, smaller, less expensive (canon cinema lenses @ nearly 7k retail?) electronically controllable but with the positive characteristics of PL mount lenses & without the issues of still glass. REDs cameras are only half the equation, & programmable lenses are every bit the future as word processing was to manual typewriters. Expect disruptive lens announcements @ Dragon announcements soon says me ;)

I don't disagree with you PC, but I would qualify a bit. I see Red as the most likely source for hybrid cine/stills lenses. That is where they are known to be blazing a trail, and that is where the marketplace is deficient. I wouldn't expect Red to get into production of stills optimized, or stills only glass. As I have mentioned I'm sure Jim's got the balls to try it, but I think he sees more opportunity in hybrid glass that if good enough, could cross over into the stills only market. After all the core of his business is concentrated on cine, and I expect it will remain that way in the near term. That's my guess.

Hmm, due to the fact that the new MEIZLER Module include some options for control of external lens motors, I sincerely hope and believe that Red will announce some new lenses very similar to the current RPP's, only with an added electronic interface... It's allowed to hope?

I agree & never said stills only lol. No question convergence is upon us, & RED is the most brave / disruptive imaging company out there creating these new paths forward.

Oh, my bad. When you say "Take on Canon glass" I think of still lenses. It's an old habit I guess.

I heard from a reliable source that the RPP 50mm is just sold out and that they are building more. He said they didn't anticipate so many to be sold.

Same lens. Nothing changing.

But wonder if the Red 50-150 zoom will be coming back also.....or is that one a permanent goner..?
