  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Just wanted to give my impressions after shooting with the Red Pro Primes for a day. I was hired by Mad Media to be one of the Red Camera Operators on Ken Block's Gymkhana Two. It was a 5 day shoot that was shot 90% Red with Jay Schweitzer being the other Red Operator. The rest of the segment is 5% Phantom HD and 5% Sony POV. We used Zeiss Superspeeds for the first 4 days but on the last day Jarred let a set of RPP's slide out to the Port of Los Angeles. All I can say is Holy SH#T! This glass is amazing. I found it much easier to operate with them compared to the Zeiss glass. They are sharper and easier to pull focus with. Extremely well built and excellent bokeh. The only bummer was I only got to shoot with them for one of the days. I am going to get a set for sure. The first Ken Block Gymkhana segment has over 20 million views so we are hoping for a similar response. Ken is an amazing driver and Joshua Martelli did a great job directing. Many thanks to Jarred for letting his babies out for a day and to Kevin for bringing them to the shoot.

Just a note... there's a big difference between SuperSpeeds and UPs/MPs. SuperSpeeds are much smaller diameter with less rotation, smaller marks and not as sharp.

Thanks Sean. Yeah Ken is a driving machine. I was pretty scared for him on a few shots but he nailed it with zero issues. The one shot from the Condor where he slides out of the warehouse and comes right up to the edge of the dock was silly. There was no rescue plan on that. If he hooked that wood and flipped into the water it would have been ugly. I'm stoked that I have gotten to work with so many amazing atheletes over the years.
Nice work on this one Ken.

We had the pleasure of co-producing the Gymkhana Two project with Ken Block and DC Shoes.
And I was lucky enough to get called back to direct this second project too.

Can't say enough about how great it was to work with McEntire and Jay on this project.
And a special thanks to RED for going out of there way on several occasions to help us. The new glass is BEAUTIFUL.

Also very special thanks to Matt Duclos for coming out with his 11-16. I did not get a chance to use it because the second Jay saw it he had it on his camera for the rest of the day. Seeing the 11-16 cut in with the other glass it looks great. Here are a few still images from the shoot. The shot of Ken in his car is a frame grab from the 100mm RPP. There is also a shot of me putting one if the RPP's and one of everyone checking one of Jay's shots with the Duclos 11-16.

Here are a few more shots from Gymkhana Two. The first one is the director Joshua Martelli with Ken. The next one is Ken and Cort from Crawford Performance. The last one is Jay getting ready to film Ken peel out of the warehouse to start the day. One of the funnest shoots I have been to for sure.

Thanks for the props guys. It's pretty easy to get good shots with driving like that. Also thanks to Mike Flores for setting up some great angles. Joshua I need some of those DC arm floaties for the next time the waves pick up in Oceanside!

That's some hardcore sik sht.
Me and my R1 did similar craziness recently with the Purchase Brothers. Some wicked driving on an abandoned hwy, for the third episode of Escape from City 17, a Half Life spec and Youtube hit.
