  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED PRO Mattebox

Want to send me one?

Are you planning on getting 5 Epics?

Michael you are funny, tell me your address & Fedex account no, Haha!
Well, I am thinking to buy few of Epic, will see...
Cheers Dude!

Will it cover a 18mm lens?

Yes it does,

we tested with both the 18mm RPP and MP, the Ruby 14-24 is covered from
just about 16mm, below that it vignettes with lateral lines.

Again RED PRO MB is a great Clip on, super light, and form next week with
the Top Flag, will be even better, we are Loving IT ;)

Did Jim say that with the 17-50mm coverage starts at 19mm? And yet the 18mm is covered fully well and with the 14-24mm at 16mm? hmm...interesting

We wil be doing a test as son as we get back to California, with all lenses, and see exactly how each lens
is covered, but as of now yes, the above is correct, you also need to take in consideration that each lens
is build differently, and front element may be closer or further from glass, so that also matters.

Jim's comments on the 17-50 coverage were regarding full 5K on Epic, not the mattebox.

Anyway, mattebox arrived here about 20 minutes ago. It's pretty awesome. I'll try and post some pics up later. The RED One is out for the next 10 days... But the RPP's and a few other lenses are here, I can clip it to the front of an RPP and dream... Hehe.

Initial impressions: Nice and light. Well made. I think I'm going to like it more than the LMB-5. Side and bottom flags will need additional attachment pieces other than the flags themselves. The mount points are there on the mattebox for attaching these pieces, so looks pretty straight forward. All things considered, it's an awesome clip-on MB!

If you want to insert mattes, there is no real provision for that at the moment, that I see. Personally, I never use matte inserts, and find more things to dislike than like about them.

We recieved our red Mattbox yesterday, and it's great.

Needs a top flag and some reduction rings, and will get the 15mm LW rod option to complete a solid Lite-weight MB capability.

Very nice, good job red!

Top/Bottom Flags next week.. Carbon Fiber or Aluminum.

Do you guys know the price and weight differences between aluminum and CF yet? Also...all the boxes themselves are CF, right? Or is there a choice there too? Thanks.
Peace,

-Harry

Jarred, when can I give you my money for the deposit for the flags?

Just got mine MB yesterday. I must admit that it really exceeded my expectations. Well, I should not be surprised: is designed and manufactured by Red.

BTW, Any plan for side flags?

Great to see things progressing quickly on the regular matte box. but any updates on when the Scarlet size will be available to order?

Will a bellows from an Arri MMB-1 fit on this guy? (will be applicable once rod option is released)

Carbon Fiber Top/Bottom Flag = 68 grams = $90
Aluminum Top/Bottom Flag = 122 grams = $40
