Hi, we have RED PRO MATE BOX with Cage and Side flags.

How we can mount it to SCARLET using Canon lenses?

What extra grip we need to order from store, and what is recommended ROD length?

Thanks!

It's my understanding that the RED mattebox isn't compatible with rod systems yet.
I use this adaptor with my Canon lenses and the RED mattebox, and it works great. There are other thread sizes as well.

Jeff - do you happen to know how much the matte box weighs? I have been thinking about this for my own Canon L lenses. Does it work well? Thnx.

RED Mattebox w/2 trays = 1lb 8.8oz
CF Flag= 2oz
Chrosziel adaptor= 2oz

I think that the RED mattebox is perfect for my needs. It is wide enough for all my lenses, out to 11mm on my Tokina 11-16 no problem.
I needed a clip on MB so it could "ride" out on my Canon 24-70mm zoom and I don't want to add extra weight and complexity with risers, rods, etc.
It looks like a rotating filter stage could be added on at some point by RED as there's a great location for that option to bolt in, but for now I
just rotate the whole box and accomplish the same thing. I don't mind that it's RED branded and priced right, either!

I remember Ketch saying how ridiculously light it was !

I use the same setup. Though I do feel that when your on the wide end of a Canon 24-70, there does seem to be significant downward weight on the lense. I wouldn't do any snap zooms or quick motions all the way wide with the lens extended. 2c

Yeah, how are you mounting that?

The ABOX can be mounted on 15mm Rails, so they made a small 15mm insert that you can bolt on wherever there is a 1/4-20. Works really well!!

Thanks!

I will try when I get my SCARLET, but can you confirm it is safe to put MB on top of the lens without any ROD support?

For my needs, the RED mattebox is light enough so I won't worry about it on my Canon lenses. However, I do feel like the 24-70 when extended
pushes the setup and I will take extra care when using it with the box attached. Specifically, I wouldn't extend or retract the zoom mechanism
without helping a little by lifting the weight off a bit to prevent stress on the lens internals. I am very impressed with the RED Canon mount, it
locks down the lens mount really well and there is no sign of sag, but if I had known Ti Canon mounts would be delivered in about the same
timeframe as the Al mounts, I might have gone that route for extra strength. Once RED releases their rod support for the box, I'll be ordering
that as well, especially if they offer a third stage which will add extra weight.

Jeff, how is that ABOX mounted?

Kind of a hack, but it works for now. I used one of the bolts on the brain, sandwiched a small neoprene washer so I wouldn't scratch the finish,
and put a strip of velcro to keep it stable. Nothing permanent, just getting the A-box on the brain with minimal weight until I get some cheese.
That Pro I/O module will hopefully come soon and take the A-box out of the picture anyway ;-)

Jeff - pardon me for asking so many pesky questions but... :-)

I can't tell exactly how the step up ring attaches - is it like a normal lens step-up that screws on the lens threads, then the box clamps on the 110mm outer ring? Meaning you have to change the ring even time you changes lenses? (Or buy multiple rings.) I was hoping to find a solution where you can just set up the matte box and clamp it on any 80mm (outer diameter) lens.

Ask away, Terry :) Yes, the Chrosziel adaptor screws onto the lens, and the box clamps to it. I got one for each lens, but I don't think it would be a bad option to keep one in the box and share it between lenses, making the box a "screw-on" vs a "clamp-on".

Thanks again, Jeff! Very helpful. I bought a few of these Cine Rings here on REDuser and I was hoping they would help me bridge the gap to the RED Matte Box - since they don't have outer threads, it doesn't look like they are compatible. :-(

Oops - wait: I double checked and they DO have outer threads. Progress....

No problem ,Terry. I didn't realize those had outer threads either, but wondering what that gets you? The smallest clamp offered with the RED mattebox is 110mm.

Jeff - your right. I am in exactly the same position only with 80mm outer thread instead of 77mm. Not all that helpful. :-) Still need a bunch of $75 step-up rings to get where I'd like to be. (I did PM Michael A to see if he could create a similar product to his Cine Rings but bridging the gap to 110mm). Hmmmm...
