I am getting a RED PRO LCD on friday and i was wondering what it's advantages were over using an HDMI monitor on the R1? Whats the resolution/color space? are there any extra features? Thanks

I have both the 7" RED PRO and a Small HD DP6. The DP6 has more resolution and focus tools but the big advantage for me to using the RED PRO 7" is that it's powered by the camera which is very convenient. And the look around is better on the 7" than the guide lines on the DP6.

Here are the Specs for the Red Pro 7''
Resolution: 1024×600
Response time: 25ms
Contrast: 700:1
Brightness: 400 nits
Viewing angle: 80 degrees H, 80 degrees V
Power consumption: 225mW
Operating range: 0C to +40C (32F to 104F)
Storage range: -20C to +50C (-4F to 122F)

is the look around area greater than what the HDMI signal puts out? Any pictures you could share with me? Does the image take up the full area of the lcd or is there dead space where no information from the camera is showing?

Sorry it took me so long to respond to this, what I meant by the look around on the Red Pro 7" being better than the guides on the DP6 is that beyond having guide lines on the 7" you can adjust the opacity on the look around of the Red Pro 7" so you can see more than the frame you are capturing if you choose to or you can have it completely black and only focus on the area you are capturing. While on the DP6 it's you only have the options of guidelines which are still good. I don't have any pictures but I will take some next time I have the camera setup. The both take up the full area of the LCD.

The Red Pro 7" LCD with Red One is excellent. There's no dead space. And there's a user button you can assign functions to.

My Red Pro 7" LCD died, and I looked for another monitor, especially the Small Hd Oled one. At the end, I bought again the Red LCD. It is great to stay in the Red system, and the "old" Red Pro 7" still kick asses. No need to look around, that is still the best choice IMHO.
