Recently took delivery of four Red One's #6893 - #6896. On #6894 we are experiencing a problem with our Red Pro LCD that looks like blue lines and noise distortion overlaying the monitored image. It is usually prevalent during the first 7 minutes after booting up the camera. The first thing we tried was to exchange the cable with other cameras lcd cables but the problem persisted. Next we exchanged lcd screens with other cameras but the problem persisted. Next we reinstalled the latest firmware Release Build 20 (v20.1.6) and black shaded. Still no luck. Next we tried to update the firmware to the BETA Build 21 (v21.3.1) and black shaded. Still no luck. We still get the blue lines and noise over the image for about 7 minutes after booting up. I searched the forums and didn't find this problem elsewhere. I also couldn't find a troubleshooting section. Has anyone else experienced this issue with the monitor output of the LCD screen being traced back to the camera body outputting blue interference lines and noise? Any ideas to try other than shipping it back to Red?

Thanks.

Roger, have you had a chance to file a support ticket with TECHNICAL SUPPORT on RED.COM? www.red.com/contact_us

Brent,

Our IT guy Christian has been in touch with you guys at Red. Just thought there might be an idea here to try. Thanks for the prompt response.

Roger,

Did you ever resolve this problem? I have the same issue and RED was very prompt but I need to try another LCD cable and also another monitor before I can go further.

Thanks,

Peter

We've been in contact with Nate and Sean from Red who have been very polite and vigorously trying to get things fixed. We have tested with the latest build 21 before it was removed from Red's support page and it didn't fix the issue. We have tried multiple different cables and LCDs due to the luxury of having 4 complete Red One kits here and have determined that the issue is in the camera body itself. In our case, the issue resolves itself after about 7 minutes "warm up" time and even when recording media to a Red Drive it is not recorded on the resulting image. So, it is only a display issue associated with the output of the Red One Body to the LCD screen. Of course, YMMV. We are preparing to ship the body #6894 back to Red and hopefully they can fix our issue. What serial number is your Red One? I'm curious if this is isolated to serial numbers close to ours. Good luck with yours and please keep me informed about your progress getting it solved.

I have RED # 4296. I am waiting to try a new LCD and also more cables. Will let you know what happens with this issue. It seems we are the only 2 to have this problem.

Thanks,
Peter

After trying everything we could we shipped Red One #6894 and the 7" LCD back to Red today for repair. I hope they can get it fixed and shipped back soon. Good luck Red wizards. I wouldn't mind if they wrap it in a nice Red T-shirt when they ship it back ;>).

Well, it appears that my problem was a bad EVF cable with a bent pin. This shorted out the CPU board. Why is it that a new CPU board costs $4700???? Seems a bit expensive but hey that is what it is.....

Peter

Peter,

Thanks for the update. Maybe it's the CPU board on ours as well. We did try several different cables and monitors though.

Got #6894 back. So far, it appears the Red folks have fixed my problem. Still have no idea what was wrong though.

Well... my problems have returned. Set up #6894 yesterday to record an interview of an 80 year old retired female USAF General and got the familiar blue noise in the viewfinder again. Multiple cable changes and reboots did nothing to resolve it. Fortunately, the noise doesn't end up on the media. But it does make it tricky to focus and expose properly. There was one additional oddity this time. On one of the recordings it only produced one "F" proxy along with the R3D files. And, none of the proxy files are viewable in QT. However, the R3D files import fine into Red Alert. Getting the new RC build 90 installed in a little while and will try to grade then. I really hope I don't have to ship this one back...again. It was fine for the last recordings. Worked like a charm for 9 hours straight. Media looked gorgeous. Everyone was very happy with the results. I still don't know what service was performed on this camera the last time I had to return it. I don't make blockbuster movies. So I don't have the tight deadlines that some of you do. But, I do sometimes need to record some very important historical documentation of subject matter that will not be available for much longer. Frustrated this morning.
