Hi guys

a few days ago I tried using the DC power supply for my RED the first time in months and i noticed that its not working at all :/

whenever I have the RED powered by battery, the little Power Supply box at the rear display shows DC power and not the remaining battery life. And when I try to power the RED through the charger (no batteries on charge), the Led jumps to green for a few seconds and then turns of and I cant power up the red at all :/

anyone else having these issues atm ?

thanks

I'm having the same problems. we should compare notes and report back to RED

exactly the same problem. Red says send the charger back and the battery plate for testing.

michael: sure, what details do u want ?

puven: i havent filed a support ticket yet, i know the charger powered the red in teh past, so it DID work, but it was always a bit tricky, sometimes you had to flick the charger on and off a few times before it kicked in.

About the battery and the box saying it's DC: are you using Red Bricks or are them from other brands? I say this 'cause the only batteries that display the remaining % are the Red Bricks (and I think there is another brand, but not quite sure), any other batteries you plug will dislpay as DC.
About using the charger to plug the RED directly, as it's said in the charger manual, you must push the RED ONE power button 2 times for the charger to enter in the DC mode (I think you have like 3 seconds to push it 2 times).
Hope this helps with your issues!
Cheers.

Re dc power indicator.
I'm having the same issue since the upgrade. I'm using an element technica battery mount and I changed their magnet back to the red magnet and it helped. It shows the remaining battery power 90 percent of the time. I haven't had any issues before the upgrade.
I am using red batteries.

3rd party products may not show the status.. but if it's RED stuff thats not working, submit a support ticket on RED.com and the guys will help you out.

I had this problem when I first got the charger. It turned out to be a problem with the long cable which runs from the charger to the camera which was replaced by Red.

PS

I think I remember a little trick that some guy at Red told me to get it going. Try turning the camera on very quickly after turning on the power to the charger and the light MIGHT stay green. I know that this is not a permanent solution...

In the end I got the actual mains supply sold by Red which is so much better because it makes no noise at all. The charger was hopeless on set because it makes so much fan noise.

Jordi is correct. Probably less than 3 seconds! This always works unless the charger or cable is faulty.

i made an ac/dc converter for my red myself. it is called ETF 150/12 (150W / 12V), is made (or assembled - i assume it is made in asia) by a small bavarian company, looks like a big notebook converter, doesn't have a fan (no noise) and runs day in day out since almost one year now.

i worked also perfectly for our digital betacam, hdx900 and xdcam422 cam - for the red i chose the biggest the offer without fan - the only thing you have to do is to solder a XLR 4pin to the dc end of the converter.

kind regards,
martin

Power switch trick

Power switch trick

If you have that issue (RED-CHARGER green lamp goes off) two presses of the camera Power button in about one second may fix that.

Waiting longer between presses may still work, but the success rate is likely to fall off (the measured sense voltage / current is drops)
