  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red power cable for block batteries

The Anton Bauer blocks are very nice and Abel has tested them with the Phantoms as well as other cameras. The Phantoms are 24v with an even bigger draw than RED (a bit shy of 100wh). The ABs worked well and ran the cameras for a very long time. I also know that these blocks are becoming the batteries of choice for the power-hungry F23 at many rental houses.

Abel can sell the Anton Bauer products to anyone interested. We know Paul well.

charge time? water seals?

I think only rental houses appreciate how much of a beating batts take. Would these fit in a standard small pelican? Are they small enough to fit in the batt tray of a Fischer?

YES... they are designed to fit in the dolly tray AND also CE approved! The feedback from the local NZ crew who have been using it, has been fantastic. The sample unit here also has the F23 / Genesis connector. Genesis ran in real world shooting for about 3 hours from this battery on a recent commercial. I'm looking at this battery to compliment the 435 packages.

The battery will not fit in a standard small pelican, or a small pelican case either, are you thinking of a 1400 size? The battery does have molded rubber bumpers on the corners which wrap around to the bottom for protection. An ATA case is available from AB. Not sealed against water.

Just so you know, the AB block is a rather massive beast. It's essentially four Hytron 140 bricks inside there, so it weighs about 25 ibs. I assume the half sized unit Paul mentioned is the same as two Hytron 140s. If these are a bit much for your taste then there is also the CinePower Mega-D 15s and the Dolly Packs, which as 15amps and 8amps respectively compared to the AB's 39amps. They are also a lot smaller and weigh about 15ibs & 10ibs., respectively.

We sell them all and have nothing bad to say about any of them. The CinePower units come from England while the AB units are from Connecticutt, so that might be an issue for those who like to buy locally for service and tax reasons (I know this is an international forum). The new smaller AB unit Paul mentioned might be more the physical size many RED users might prefer. If I were on a shoot running about I might rather have two of those than one of the big guys.

I'm very familure with the Dolly Packs, I always feared their prissy exterior's compared to the pelicaned Leadacid packs I'm so used to. Although I have never broken one, I wouldn't toss it into the mud as quick as I would the pelican. Same for these AB packs.

I wouldn't be so concerned if I were you. Both the Dolly Packs and the AB blocks are pretty solid. Tossing into the mud I'd be more afraid of a short, which would happen on your Pelicans as well.

Both of these brands are pretty much industry stands, just like Victory and some other big battery makers. I wouldn't worry.

over 9 hrs runtime is so nice.

The AB block. Is it affected by the new airline rules or any airline rules for that matter?

I am assuming no but I would want to be sure before buying one.

No, they use NiMH tech, so no lithium is included.
Only restriction is that they weight some Kgs.
