Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum, and tried to search for the answer to my question, but couldn't get a single straight answer, so I'm hoping you can help.

I shot a feature on the RED, edited the 1K proxy files on a MacBook Pro.

We are going to finish with a 2K ProRes out to master on HDCamSR.

Here's my questions:

1) Do I simply go back and replace my 1K proxies with 2K proxies and Export a QT Conversion of that FCP sequence, then color time that in Color, or are there more steps involved?

2) What are the best settings to use to export the ProRes? We shot for a 2.35:1 aspect ratio.

Thanks in advance for any advice you might be able to give.

HDSR is 1080P

If you use the QT Proxies, you limit your ability to color grade the film, ideally you would work with r3D files for your master.

You should be able to go to your FCP sequence and "Send To" Color (File menu). You should consider prepping the sequence to 1 video track and break it up into multiple shorter sequences as Color has problems with long sequences. After sending to Color, save the project, quit color, and use Clipfinder to fix the "looping bug". Google Clipfinder (Hans George software), download it (the latest beta) and Go to Tools>Fix Looping bug on Color project. After you do this open your COlor project and grade it.

You will have to do this for each sequence (consider doing 15 minute reels). From Color you can render Quicktimes (uncompressed or ProRes) and then Send To FCP. This will create a new sequence in FCP that references the new media created by Color. Read the Color manual for more about the back and forth. Note that using this workflow you will be UNABLE to render handles in Color on the RED footage. Also, be wary and closely inspect any clips with motion resizes or Effects in FCP. Read the Color manual for more info about prepping your sequence for Color.

digitalfx, It is my understanding that I can't use the R3D files for the master because I don't really have the ability to manipulate them in FCP. If there's a way I could do this, I would love to do that.

We are pretty much at the end of our budget, and are prepping to take the movie out to festivals this way.

Any advice?

Eric, thank you for all the advice on Color.

Sorry if I seem unknowledgeable here.
