Hi All

This is mostly for my fellow EU brethren:

I guess my two REDs are coming down the pipeline and I was wondering if any of you had any experience when it comes to import taxes? It should be pretty much the same all over the EU but I know a few REDs has been shipped to Denmark and since that's my stomping grounds, I'd love to hear from anyone who dared import one into a place George Harrison must have been thinking about when he wrote "Taxman".

Jesper

You will have to pay Danish VAT and import tax (about 7-4 %).

In Sweden we have to pay 12,9%, I spoke with the customs. And after that 25% sales tax.

Thanks Jesper for this thread, I'm also concern about this taxes/import duties things; so anyone from France who has already got delivery of their Red One to please tell us the exact amount involved. Merci d'avance.

Thanks for your input

I can see there's a lot of swedes here, and even though I'm emigrating to Sweden in may, my company is still going to be based out of Copenhagen so it woud be cool if some of the Danes could tell me about their experience with the danish tax people.

I don't think above is correct. Import duty codes below:

Camera - 8525 801990 - 4.9%
Lenses - 9002 110090 - 6.7%
Drives and CF Cards - 0%

RED is not a videocamera (12.5%) since is has no videotape.

Well if that's true it is good news.
The official at the customs was very clear about the figure 12,9. Do you have any document you can share about your figures? It's a lot of money...

Check the customs duty code pages! This codes origins from UK, but I'm pretty sure it's the same through out EU. Fernebrandt received code for still camera - no import duty at all.

I learned that it is better to talk to UPS, DHL or other companies, they know it better how to deal with it then most government custom offices. They prepare the papers, and the custom officer just signs it if he doesn't suspect there could be a mistake.

There is just one other thing, look very carefully if the company is well established in your country. ie in Italy it is better to avoid Fedex, there are very weak hear. I don't know in other EU countries.

Hi Jesper,

Feel free to gives us a call this coming week. Our finance officer will get home from Mexico wednesday and he can tell you how much and why :) As I recall it's not extremely expensive. Can't remember how the danish "Told & Skat" cathegorize the camera, but we can dig it up if you want.

I called the customs and also got the 12,5% figure... However I dug inside their "Taric" website, and I can´t imagine how the custom representative came up with this figure.. Its definitly NOT a video camera. I now sent them a mail, with a link to the red.com, and wanted them to specify what Im buying exactly :clown2: Their codes are pretty much outdates, and mostly covers stuff from the 70s it seems.. I aiming towards that this will either be considered as a high-end SLR camera, or "another". So its either 0% or 4,9% the way I see it.

Very good.
I also tried to dig into the Taric djungle but I gave up. I thought to myself, this calls for some kind of expert touch and I am planning to ask the customs if they have this kind of free service. It would be really good if some kind of prejudicate will rise soon. Thanks

Thanks, Steen

I will definitely do that! It could be interesting to know.

Also I believe that even if we're all in the EU, every country's tax authorities have an inherent "sovereign" attitude towards their own citizens and thusly will do what they can, within the given legal framework to screw us out of money. This will probably lead to some very creative interpretations of what a RED camera really is!

Tax

Tax

This is what I got taxed on my first body and accessories:

Anders.
Does the protocol mean you did'nt have to pay any customs fees at all?
Amazing...

I got a first response from the customs.. Since its in swedish I'll post the current info in the swedish user group!

Thanks, Anders

This is really helpful! The only thing I can't really figure out is the amounts. Correct me if I'm wrong, the first amount is customs tax and that's a nil. The next is VAT? Which is 25% in DK. Is that how I should read it? If it is, that's great news! And the difference in the two amounts on the left is probably the shipping cost, since you have to pay customs tax on the shipping costs as well, but not VAT. Is this also correct?

Cheers, Jesper!
