  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

For the first time my Red camera let me down on an actual paying shoot.

This is the failure message: "Recording Error: INTERNAL_FAULT"

Basic Green Screen setup; Matthews fabric green screen lit with two Kinoflo Image 85 lamps, subject lit with 4'x6' Chimera over 5K tungsten Mole Fresnel.

The really peculiar thing is we received the failure only when just a tiny bit of the FG subject was in the frame! Solid green; no problem. Subject dominating the frame no problem!

The error message was absolutely repeatable; every time I tried that particular composition, I got the failure message.

I powered down and put up a fresh battery; no joy. Changed drives, no joy.

Changing the composition eliminated the problem.

This one is very, very weird.

Not a deal breaker, but scary.

What's up?

Worse thing is that I can no longer claim that the Red camera has never failed on a shoot....

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Hi Leo,

Can you email us the log file, a jpeg, and the clip names that this occured in?
Thanks.

Absolutely!

The job is rendering now, but as soon as I can get the material I'll send to you.

Thanks!

Leo

Sound like the codec cant achieve its compression for the framing. Please let us know the update on this..will be very curious

I forgot to state that I was shooting 3K, 16x9, at 50 fps over a 23.98 time base.

Very strange...

I am delighted with the footage, however; never seen anything key as well as Red shots.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

First your evil tree stump and now your evil green screen. Seems like you have it all...

Thanks for your report, Leo.

Yes, we are the ultimate, "push it until it breaks facility."

Actually, I seem to remember someone else posting about Green Screen failures before our discovery.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Leo..any update about this case

What codec were you using RC 28 or RC 36?

Dave

RC 28

Leo

Leo,

Just curious if you tried RC 36?

Dave

I was shooting a job, not experimenting.

You can't shoot 50 fps at 16x9 3K with RC 36.

Best regards,

Leo

Curious and I'm not saying it's related but were you powering anything out of the rear RED 12V out ports or anything off the port below the LCD/EVF plugs (can't rememeber if it's RS232?)
I've only had this problem when powering accessories off the RED's on-board power outs...but not when using an AntonBauer powertap multi.
Thought I'd ask Leo.

You might be onto something. My only unexplained build 16 codec errors happened when something was powered off of one of the back 12v ports. Didn't have time to do any trouble shooting with all the money people still in hysterics over the giant red error X, but unplugging stuff from the back port was one of the things I did before the error went away.

sounds promising for inclino...

No. Camera was shooting with Red LCD, EVF, and Origo. Power from Anton Bauer 140.

Best regards,

Leo
