When I open the log and transfer window FCP attempts to mount the hard drive with my Red footage. A short while into this attempt it stops and crashes FCP. The dialog says "The application Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the Red plug-in." I have tried a number of times but I keep getting kicked out. :help:

Is every component up-to-date?

You need FCP 6.0.5 !

I saw that. I hope updating to 6.0.5 will take care of the problem.

I'm curious if anyone else had FCP crash and got the error message stating "the problem may have been caused by the Red plug in."

Thanks

I am having this exact same problem and I'm on FCP 6.0. Things were working fine until I upgraded to Leopard. That's when the problem began.

Did you do a "software update" after upgrading to Leopard? I couldn't even get FCP to start up until doing so...I think it was the QT component that was the problem but that's not obvious.

I found the culprit. Out of all the clips there was one corrupt file. I identified it by trying to open one of its QT proxies. The net effect was that the corrupt clip crashed FCP and showed the "Problem with Red Plug-in" when I tried to capture anything from its folder. There were three clips in the folder. FCP would crash even if I tried to capture one of the other clips. I trashed the corrupt clip and suddenly log and transfer went fine for everything else.

Have you any way of knowing how it was corrupted? Is there a way that you can get that clip to me?

Problem Solved: Yes, I had updated everything using Software Update, but I have subsequently figured it out why it was crashing. It turns out that one R3D clips in the group is corrupt and was causing the crash. When this clip was removed all others loaded fine. What troubling is that I do not know what happened with the clip. When loaded into RedAlert it loots totally messed up (inverted colors, etc.). It is only referenced for audio, so no big deal, but I'm still sleuthing out what happened.

I have subsequently had another corrupt file cause the same crash. Once identified I was able to get rid of the bad file and transfer the others. Obviously that is not a great thing because there was data loss.

I want to send you the two corrupt files. Where do I send them?

reinhart@red.com

If they're big, is there an ftp site (one of those public available jobs) that you
can post them to?

Maybe this site will do the trick:
