I searched to see if anyone's already posted this, but didn't find anything.

I stumbled upon a site today that is, well, a sad parody of RED. It seems to start off clever, but loses it somewhere along the way. I'll let you guys be the judges...

a WhoIs search shows this site was registered on the 4th of December. Seems like it was written (in iWeb) by a still photog who doesn't seem to "get" the whole DSMC thing.

The "Conundrum X" sensor sounds very promising, and 4-D. A shame we have to wait until fall 2027 for it to start shipping.

Hysterical...Well done...It must be the Germans behind it.

Its charming and flattering...Red has humor and is certainly having a giggle themselves at it...It took time and thought to make and is done with love not malice...Thats tongue in cheek for you.

Now whoever is responcible for it please step forward and except your public flogging like a Man!

A good parody can be funny... I didn't find this funny, so I didn't think it was a good one. Mr. Brad Herman (or at least that's the name the domain is registered to) obviously has some extra time on his hands.

Oh, and trademark violation?

Oh, and trademark violation?

That's kind of how I felt. It seemed like a novel concept, but the delivery wasn't just right. It feels more like a sloppy mocking (when he says "our products are just as real as theirs").

As far as trademark violations go, I thought that parody is granted certain allowances, even in the courts. I mean, obviously they still can't do whatever they want, but they are allowed to poke fun.

Also, Jim has that thread about respecting the RED Trademark on your website, if you talk about it.

Exactly. There were a couple other direct jabs in there too. The parody concept could be funny I suppose, unfortunately the delivery was flawed. And most of the actual "jokes" are just re-hashes of some of the criticism or snide remarks already made here and on other forums. The site read more like a poorly hacked together summary of comments from naysayers and disgruntled RED owners after the 11/13 announcements. Maybe I'm jaded somewhat in that I'm here a lot, read a lot of crap. The guy who created this site had already been here before and created a post that was a mock ad for his mock company, it was pulled.

Yes, mostly. The only thing I saw that may be in violation could be trademarks and copyrights related to the RED logo. However, looking at it again, I'd think he's probably safe. It appears to be something drawn by someone other than RED, it's off the mark in several ways, like the iris separations slanting the opposite direction and at a different angle. So the logo itself is a parody.

Looking closer at the logo, there is Latin written around it.

"Nubem Objicere" means "To CAST a mist before one's eyes."

and

"ex Aqua Ventus" means something like "rumor above water" or "rumor out of water."

Of course these are from translation dictionaries, so if someone actually speaks Latin they could translate better.

It seems like somebody is so desperate to discredit the Red that they are willing to put a lot of time and effort into this site...the only funny part is how desperate they are!

I think Ted needs to stop by and give them a demo!

Call me Scooby Doo but my theory is that Brad Herman is a "Red Herring".
1st Clue, The pastel font and impulse to sprinkle key words ( Valiant ) here and there.

Its certainly has got to have something to do with Old Man Wilson ... If not directly than in relation to ... 2nd clue.

I chuckled. Yes he/she does spank Red a bit with the following:

"Blue Digital Cinema is in no way related to Red Digital Cinema.
That’s a whole other color. Our products are just as real as theirs. We may even hit our deadlines first."

But in retrospect Red et al can handle it. Can't wait for the December 15th announcements...

Have a look at the G.I. Joe parodies made by Fensler. Click this link.

These Blue guys have nothing to worry about. Parodies seem to be extremely safe when it comes to copyrights and trademarks. Toy manufacturer Hasbro sued Fensler, but it didn't help. These are some of the funniest parodies around, any category.

A few more (there's like 25):
