Went to a Red/Apple event in DC last night and was so blown away I had to share. Chesapeake Systems, Butler Films, Apple and AJA were there in the AFI Theater showing off the camera and workflow with Final Cut. The highlight of the show was the projection of a split screen comparison of 4K Red and 35mm film- same scenes, same lighting, same lens.

This IS NOT a slam on film because I have been a die hard film guy for 20+ years but let's just say I haven't been this excited since I transitioned from an Ikegami HL-79 with a 35 pound 1" field deck to an Arri BLIII.

I'm all in for the long haul fellow Redites!

welcome to "the sickness" it only takes over your body and mind more and more as you go on. Medical circles call it "Jannard's Curse".

Haha. No wonder Kodak is running double-truck, full-page ads in the new American Cinematographer insinuating that shooting digitally is "cheating" on film, and is a "compromise."

Their new tagline is: "Kodak. Film. No compromise."

I think we know what inspired this.

"Every shot I have ever made has been a compromise in some way. That's a sweeping statement, but true nonetheless. No image has ever been as good as the one I envisioned in my mind's eye. Maybe that's what keep me going: just once, I want to see that image onscreen!"

How many people showed up at the DC event? And what kind of people (producers, camera-people, advertising agency people, Discovery Channel type documentary people)? Any way to tell? And how much time was spent on workflow, and was it 4k workflow or 1080 HD workflow?
Thanks

The theater held 200 people and I didn't see an empty seat (some were standing as well). A VERY diverse crowd from Agency types to production types to Discovery folks to Still Photographers...you name it.

Workflow was the highlight of the presentation at the end where David Butler did a great job showing how easy the workflow is in Final Cut utilizing Kona 3.
