I use the BMCC, want to add slow motion for an upcoming music video. Only have canon EF glass right now. Thinking of getting an R1. Budget less than 6k. I've looked a lot and haven't seen this as option. Can you add a canon adapter to the Nikon mount? I have seen the Birger, Leica etc. I am ok with taking the lens off and setting aperture via my 7d.

Thoughts?

Due to a difference of "Focal flange length", it is not possible to adapt from a nikon mount to an EF lens.

The focal flange length of EF is shorter than that of Nikon, therefore it's possible to "add adapter length" to go from an EF mount to a Nikon lens, but going from a Nikon mount to an EF lens would require mounting the EF lens closer to the sensor than the Nikon mount would allow. Since it's impossible to adapt to a shorter focal flange length, you can only adapt from EF mount to Nikon lenses.

Sorry for the rambling, I was attempting to over-explain it. Hopefully this makes sense.

Thanks Brent, really appreciate it! So I guess my options are

-R1 with Leica, or Birger mount-use existing EF lenses
-Hope my friend with the EPIC shows up
-Wait for the Shogun to come out and get the GH4 to get 4:2:2 10bit 96fps
-Rent

As Brent explains, you can move from Canon to Nikon, but not back again without directly changing the mount. We (very) occasionally use a mount adapter that allows you to put a Nikon AIS lens on a Canon camera. And it works, but it isn't ideal.

I'm in your same situation, I have a Blacmagic cinema camera (that i'm trying to sell now), and I bought a RED One MX with a PL mount. I also bought a Nikon mount for it, but for now I just rent the lenses I need from grip houses around my area. In the next couple weeks I am going to buy a fairly inexpensive Zeiss 50mm Nikon mount for around 600$ to hold me over until I buy a PL Zeiss CP2
