Now that the Scarlet-X has been released, I'm trying to do a comparison between it and the Red-One, but I cannot find any specs on the Scarlet on Red's website.

Does anyone know where I can see specs on the Scarlet-X ?

Other than price, what ARE the differences between the two?

What size sensor does the Scarlet have? Will it take 16mm or Super-16mm Lenses without vignetting ?

Also, can you use the A-Mount Lens Adapter on the Scarlet?

Thanks.

It has the same sensor as the Red One MX and the Epic. The primary difference is the available framerates.

OK, now this kinda ticks me off a little.

After checking out the specs, I see NO advantages in owning a Red-One over a Scarlet-X. In fact, it looks like the Scarlet is even better, with 5K and lighter weight and more compact. With all the attachments it looks like a beefed up DSLR.

Now, I wish I had waited to buy one instead of getting a much mores expensive Red-One. Red was just taking so, so long to release the Scarlet, I got tired of waiting.

OR, am I missing something here?

Oh well, life goes on.

Honestly, I would buy a red one for the right price. That is a fantastic camera, that shoots in 2k at 120fps...the scarlet does not. Plus despite its bulky size, 4.5k res, scarlet only at 4k (in motion). I am not saying one is better then the other. I am just saying the RED one still has a lot of value...

Very true. The Red One is still a great camera to work with. One area where the Scarlet does come on top is the codec, at 440 megabits.

There was a lot of warning that this was coming. Before Scarlet-X there was Epic-S, which had even better specs and was still cheaper than RED One. And RED offered the incredibly generous Stage 2 and 3 programs to maintain their promise of obsolescence obsolete.

RED One is still a great camera, and for some uses like high speed it does out-spec Scarlet, but Epic and Scarlet are the next generation.

I was going to get a Scarlet but after the specs changed and that it won't shoot 120fps in HD I didn't buy it.

The Red One fits my needs perfectly. That's probably what I'm going to end up looking into after I save up some more money.

I'm not sure what it is but personally I like the form factor of the R1 a lot more then the Scarlet-X.

So I still think the R1 is very relevant even with the Scarlet-X out.

I wonder if there are any surprises in store for upgrading the Red One. I guess we all assume its development life is over, but is it? Sure would like to hear something from Red on that.

For me and my clients I felt that Epic was and still is the way forward. However after deciding that it became apparent that Scarlet was 'just around' the corner and sure enough the date was set. Interestingly I started to warm to the idea of a B cam or just something much more 'self contained' that gave me a 'pull it out the bag and shoot' with crucially RAW. Scarlet came out and initially I started to think maybe it could be my main camera and would not need to spend the money on Epic. Then I really started to look at the specs. While I think it's a fantastic camera it does not do what an Epic can do particularly in relation to pulling stills from motion and higher frame rate resolution. If I bought a Scarlet a 6mp still is not going to impress my clients. For me the camera muddied the water somewhat because it so nearly does all that I would need. If I had the money to buy Scarlet and Epic that would be ideal but I don't at this stage so my money will go to Epic first. However the specs of Scarlet has made me look at Red One. What a great camera. I've been so swept up by the new technology that the camera that brought me to Red I had forgotten so quickly. This is the interesting bit. Secondhand prices of Red One have always been good. If Red pull the development plug on Red One what will happen to those prices. The likelyhood is those prices are probably already starting to suffer because of the price point of Scarlet, and will continue to soften all because people want the latest technology.

The Red One was a fantastic camera before Scarlet. It's specs have not changed since. A camera that comes with all its features fully enabled, battle tested and bug free. I for one will be keeping my eye out for a possible 'simple set up' purchase that will be as good a b cam to Epic as Scarlet is.

OK, now this kinda ticks me off a little.

This is life as a buyer of technology, i'm afraid.

R1 is 4 year old tech (with a 2? year old sensor upgrade). It was inevitably going to become outdated, either by a RED product or a competing brand. If RED sat back and protected the R1, just to keep it's existing customers happy, they would soon be left behind.

You have one of the best cinema cameras in the world. Nothing to regreat or to be sorry.
You have the camera that shot some of the majors movies from recent years.
You got a beast, one day I will buy a used red one and put in a shelf, and, of course, shoot it from time to time.
