I just received the first email for the upgrade program and after reading it i have only one thing to say. I feel the luckiest person in the world to be part of the RED family.

You are the best company i could ever dream of doing business with. You deserve the best and your success is certain.

Thank you.
Miltos

No email from Red on this to us.

Any one else receive this? Details?

Best regards to all,

Leo

Got nothin' here.

Leo,

It's just the email announcing the soundboard upgrade, not it's time to send it in. I'll email it to you.

Hah - you beat me to it. I got the mail while I was out, and the first thing I did when I got home was log in here to start a thread.

Naysayers can bark all they want about "problems with the Red"... but upgrading all the chargers, battery plates, audio boards, CF boards, etc. - free of charge? You don't get that sort of service from Sony for trying out bleeding edge technology. (Unless you sue them.)

Kudos to Red - for better or for worse - for being a different kind of company.

I am very happy that the audio upgrade program has been extended with lots of other things! Cleaning, hex screw swap, new CF module, etc..

One thing that is not mentioned though, is if the firmware of the battery charger will upgraded when you send it in.

I knew about the audio upgrade but this email talks about the free upgrade of many things I wasn't aware of. Not to mention free shipping both ways.
My hats off to Red. A class act.

Got it, I just dont know if I should send the camera or not as it has been only 2 weeks since shipped.. Confusing news my friends.. confusing news..

Does anyone know what number series for the cameras started shipping with the new CF module and audio boards? I'm #2853 and wondering if I'll be getting an upgrade e-mail too...

Mitch

Wait,

I'm 758 and I did not get an e-mail. What is up with this?

David

Im #4638. Im guessing my camera will come with these upgrades when it ships in Novemberish? Hope so.

Best,

One word.... " LEGENDS!":gun:

Sounds like this is only for all the early cameras that had some small problems, Later stuff is good.

Audio and i/pin Upgrades

As most of you have probably already heard, RED will be offering an upgrade to all RED ONEs that have been delivered to-date. RED will be installing i/pins into each camera as well as replacing the existing audio board with a new board with vastly superior audio performance. This will all be done at no charge to the customer. RED will even cover shipping to and from RED.

We will also perform a tuneup that will include full camera diagnostics, re-seating of joystick knob, upgrading CF reader/writer to current gen with 16 GB CF card support, replacing many hex screws with Torx Plus screws, cleaning of OLPF and ventilation chamber, etc. All in-warranty repairs will be done on the spot and any out-of-warranty repairs needed will be brought to the customer’s attention.

We will be performing this upgrade in order of serial number and this program starts early October 2008. We anticipate about a five business day turnaround from when we receive the camera to when we ship it back out to you. The upgrade program will be performed at both our US (Lake Forest, CA) and European (Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England) facilities. In order to properly load balance between the two facilities, RED will inform you what facility will be your designated upgrade center. If you happen to be closer to the other facility when your upgrade timeslot is announced, you can make a special request to switch your designated facility.

At this time, we will only be allowing in-person drop-offs at the RED US facility. Eventually, we will also be able to accommodate in-person drop-off’s at the RED EUROPE facility and we will notify you when that is available. We ask that you please schedule in advance an in-person dropoff so we can upgrade your camera(s) in the most efficient manner possible. Although we are allotting an approximate five business day turnaround time – we will of course contact you if your camera is available sooner. You can choose to pick up your camera or have your camera shipped back to you at that time.

Note that your RED ONE will need to be given to us with the PL MOUNT installed so we can properly test the i/pin support after we perform the upgrade. In addition, optimal i/pin support is available in Build 17 and later firmware builds so if your camera is on Build 16 or a prior build, it will be upgraded to current beta Build 17 to both enable and test i/pin support. You can always rollback to Build 16 if you would prefer to be running the current release build. Lastly, if your RED ONE is no longer under warranty, both the i/pins and the audio board will be under warranty for 90 days from the time you receive your upgraded camera. If your camera is still under warranty, it will be covered for the balance of that warranty.

The upgrade program is entirely at your convenience. Whenever you have a break in your schedule for this program, we will do our best to accommodate you once you have been notified via email that your serial number group is being processed. We will try to give you as much notice as possible as to when your serial number group will start.

Battery Plates, Lenses, and Cables

We also ask that you send in any BATTERY PLATES, RED CHARGERS, and RED 18-50 and 50-150 lenses that you may have along with your camera. Any BATTERY PLATES (separate, on a RED CRADLE, on a BATTERY BELT CLIP, or RED QUICKPLATE) and CHARGERS that do not have the current gen mating pin assemblies will be upgraded to current generation. This upgrade will provide increased reliability when powering the RED ONE with a RED BRICK.

RED will also be upgrading the firmware on your RED 18-50 and 50-150 zoom lenses to ensure optimal i/pin support. Note that 300mm and RED PRO 18-85 lenses do not have i/pin support so would also not need to be sent in.

In addition, we will need you to send in any RED mini-XLR to XLR adaptor cables that you have for your RED ONE. To take advantage of the upgraded performance of the new audio board, we will have to swap your current mini-XLR to XLR adaptor cable(s) with new mini-XLR to mini-XLR cables and mini-XLR to XLR adaptors. Using the prior cables will result in subpar audio performance.

The email you will be receiving announcing your serial number range is up will contain more detailed information. We know you do not want to be without your camera for an extended period of time so we will be as quick as possible with our turnarounds. But, as we cannot accurately predict volume of returns for upgrade in a given time period, we may have delayed turnaround times when we experience heavy volume. Rest assured that we will not only be as efficient as possible, but also note we will never “rush” and send out a camera that does not meet our strict quality assurance standards.

Thanks for your time and you will hear from us when your number is up!

Check my post in the Audio and i/pin upgrade program thread for more information: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=17565&page=14 . Pretty simple, if your invoice from RED shows that your camera was invoiced before 9/13/2008, it will be eligible for the upgrade program. If it was 9/15/08 or after, all that is already taken care of (except for the 16 GB-friendly CF reader/writers. If you order 16 GB CF CARDS, one of those reader/writers will ship at n/c to you with your first delivered 16 GB CF CARD order).

Thanks, BC

so let´s go to london soon ...
