We in Kautokeino Film, in northern part of Norway when it is Polar Night now, tested our Red One camera, with the Red Prime Pro lenses, in -35C to see if it worked.
After 15 min outside, the Red monitor started to frees and the picture on it was getting more blurry, but we could use it. The Red EVF was useless after about 20 min.
There was no problems with the pictures we got from the shooting.
Every thing else worked absolutely fine. No other problems.
There are no problems with the monitor or EVF now.

Martin Weiss: Here I just use some thin cross-conry ski gloves that actually are really good in cold wether. For operating the menu settings I don´t use glows at all, but you have to be quick! :)

Gunleik: Ser fram til RED workflow kurs!

RED1 on -35C (-31F) can handle it fine just because of its compact design body.
Everything inside that compact body is heated with electronics and sensor more or less at the same temperature,
but LCD or EVF were sooner or later out of work and of course frozen without any heating.

That a good "test proof" for the future Epic "modular design"...

Absolutely fantastic!!!!

Prior to me joining the Vitec Group my company Cine Hardware designed and developed a clamshell EVF heater specifically for cold weather applications. Offhollywood will be testing prototype #002 on the upcoming feature film “Hypothermia” and will let you know how it performs.
