Hello All!

I've got a shoot coming up at a music venue and the director wants the capture the strobes at the venue with minimal banding on the image. The strobes will be DMX controlled, at a rate we can set, and we can also take a timecode feed from the desk.

Is a Ambient Lockit (try-level) box the solution to this, taking timecode lock from the desk and genlocking the RED One?

Is there a better way of doing this all together?

Cheers

Steve

I would be surprised if this were possible. My understanding of DMX strobes is that the desk will send it a rate as a value between zero and 255. The strobe will then scale that rate between its minimum and maximum frequency. When the strobe actually fires the bulb would probably be based on an internal clock which is not accessible over DMX. In order to synchronise with a strobe, you'd have to interface with the electronics within the strobe itself. I doubt that it's possible over the DMX protocol.
