  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red One SSD Nirvana

all tests with R3D data manager, ssd tests with Red Station

That amount of speed WITH checksum and to two drives?!?

&^%@^%(*&(@^*%*&(*)()*(*

red drives and cf cards all have to get turned back into red and recycled to something else. more ssds!!!

Once you upgrade...there is no going back. The SSD drives are so much better. No cables, no wires...its like a giant CF card.

I have sold every last Red Drive, Red RAM and CF card I owned and am now entirely SSD modules an all three MX's

It was lovely. I can't state strongly enough how elegant the SSD's are as media. The camera gets smaller, the SSD's format faster, the offload is crazy fast. (1/2 the time) Even the process of putting them in the camera is buttery smooth. The guys all love them. The op's and ac's are super psyched as about the camera getting smaller and cleaner. Not even a whisper of a hiccup. They did everything perfectly. Never wanna see any other media again.

I think that sums everything up fairly well.

He he he, yea I think you are right Mark. Nicely put Eric. Thank you and Eric for sharing that.

I remember how I loved the physical dimensions of P2 cards. Super small, but not too small. I kinda don't like that about CFs; they always feel as if they are about to get lost. Might be mostly unfounded but they scare me a little regardless. These super slim SSDs remind me of my old HVX media however... only these handle 120fps 5k RAW of course. ;)

And those DL speeds and capacities are triple distilled g33k pr0n!

seems like this is the defacto ssd thread, mine got lost in the shuffle...so i will post here too...

the other great thing is not worrying about breaking a pin if you put it in too fast, that goes for the cf and raid as the raid cable had pins too...

we shot about 300gigs today of julie bowen, any one that has shot with errol, know he does long takes... takes that were 40 and 50 gigs long and no problems what so ever, very fast download times...it certainly makes life easier.

if you can afford them, get them...

we also had lightiron on set again today with the ipad dailes..i love them! thanks michael and roger;)
