  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

We are changing over our Red One MX bodies to SSD media...what an upgrade!

Having up to 256GB of internal SSD media is the way it should be...no more drives and cables hanging off the body. This is a must have upgrade for Red One users. The 64GB SSD seems to be the perfect compliment.

First test yielded 26+ minutes on a 64GB SSD drive at 4K HD RC42...more test coming.

...were you on the red drive waiting list or are you a "new order"? just to know if backorder liwt is fullfiled yet.

I'll second that question.

Very Nice!

I bought a few SSD RedStations to prepare for when the drives go bye-bye.

Thanks for posting.

Finally!

Eirik???

Not yet, RED puts priority on those who have been waiting for drives and media... and I haven´t.
I hope they get these in huge quantities soon.

Red One MX- 4K HD - RC42 - 23.98

64GB- 26.5 minutes
128GB- 53 minutes
256GB- 1hr 45 min

I'm really liking the 64GB drives...the perfect size for Red One IMO. I think I'll order more of these for the R1's and use the other sizes on our Epics.

I guess there's no limits to RC 42 recording on these... Maybe even at higher framerates?

(worth a question, at least...)

i doubt it...I think the same frame rates apply here for R1.

I can not get 4K 16:9 RC42 on the SSD, if thats any indication.

If I understand...

It indicates that the camera part, not the disk part, is the bottleneck.

If it was the disk part you wouldn't be able to write RC42 at any frame size/rate.

Maybe next firmware build update can raise the frame rate of RC42 and 4k 16:9 on RC42 on SSD's?

I'd have thought so.

I am looking more foreward to less compression at higher framerates, though.

But it is possible that the R1 cannot throughput any more data.

I gotta get it. Are the Red Stations available for these? I imagine download to the computer is pretty fast with those?

As I read on a threat from deanan they should deliver up to 250MB/s download... and I believe the writespeed is nearby... thx for your tests and pics Greg!
Have you tried to use 4.5kWS in RC42 and then activate the varispeed to 30fps? That would be very interesting if that is working properly...
Hopefully we could get an update on the lower compression possibilities... thought also if it would be possible that we can use lower compression with faster media...
the pics are looking incredible btw, fewer cables and less boxes/weight makes a lot sense...
