Dear Redusers,

Very recently, my camera's been displaying dropped frames when I shoot with it. I checked the mags on my mac, and they seem to be clean. The drop frames only happen when my camera gets hot because when I first start shooting with them, everything is fine. It takes approximately two to four hours until the drop frames issue starts occurring; it gets so bad that the camera will freeze and display an audio error message. Do you guys think it's an internal SATA cable issue? Or, am I just doing something incorrect? When I use the RAID drive on it, the giant brick never has any issues. It's just the RED Mags that are running into this problem. I even reformatted a card once, and tried recording; the camera still displayed dropped frames. I would love to get this issue resolved simply so my camera is not a nuisance on set.

Regards,
Jacob Steiner

Good.

There is a "safe format" routine on the Epic and Weapon bodies. I dunno if that also goes for the Red One.

It sounds like your card slows down as it fills up, which could make sense in some conditions, but should be what the REDmags don't do.

Hmmm... The problem is that the camera was doing that with both of them when they were both at 99 percent, which leads me to believe that this is a camera issue, but I was just wondering if anyone else had these issues. I literally reformatted the card and tried again; the camera started having Drop Frame issues up in the 300s. The card was freshly formatted; I plugged in the RAID, and it didn't have a single issue.

Yes, I tested with both cards. The camera was giving off the same issue with the cards but not the RAID, which is much older than the SSD cards. I guess it's possible to have two bad cards in a row, but they work perfectly when the camera first starts up; to me that seems quite odd. Could it possibly just be a camera malfunction?

From what I'm finding through testing is that it's an overheating issue. When the camera gets too hot, it displays Data_Trans_Error, Media NaN or Audio Error. It's super strange. I've had this camera for three years, and I've never seen anything like this, but from reading the forums, this has happened to other members.

Ok! I'll call up RED in Irvine and get their input on this. Right now, the camera is working pretty well, but it could potentially get back into this groove again. I'll update this forum in a few days. If anyone has any input on the matter, please feel free to comment.

Try this..put the fan on auto and use redcode 46 or is it 42 on the mags only.

I'll give it a go, Aaron. Thanks for the advice. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.
