I was watching some special feature material on my girl with a dragon tattoo and i noticed a resolution data on their screen i was unfamilar with. How do i achieve this setting? what does the "OS" mean, overscan?

Possibly some special sauce RED cooked up for that film?

i was hoping it wouldn't come to that haha. did red really make a special firmware for fincher?!

if anyone knows the in camera tech from dragon tattoo, i'd love to read about it. this "4KOS" is driving me nuts!

i cant believe nobody here has an answer for this. there has to be someone from red with the story behind this secret setting.. or was 4K16:9 named 4KOS on an earlier build? anyone.. anyone... bueller?

Definitely a special firmware for fincher, never hear of it before....

well now i really am curious as to what fincher was using. i had no idea that RED was/is making custom firmwares for high end directors. It does not really make sense. This movie was shot in the RED ONE MX's prime and the EPIC had just come out. I know that fincher shot 2:1 5K on the epic for that film, so why not just shoot 2:1 4K like he did on the social network? Why did he need what looks to be a special resolution mode that is not available to all of us?

i dont think its a beta of 4.5k because there shooting area looked bigger than 2:1.. they had a smaller 2.35 or 2.40 frame marker in the middle of there wide shooting area.. it looks closer to 4K16:9 but im not sure. I remember reading something that fincher shot Gone Girl on the epic using an "overscan" feature so he could re frame and stabilize shots to his liking.. i wonder if he had a special setting where he was able to capture the entire sensor area or something?
