  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red One Sensor Failure rate

Which also brings up insurance coverage anyway. Don't you guys have insurance that covers you if a camera dies in the middle of a shoot?

A lot of posters on this site seem to overlook the fact that not all Red users are professional film companies.

I have insurance which covers theft. But that it it.

As for the discussion about "professional products" don't need to have a decent warranty like "consumer products", I don't get that at all.

I am a consumer, and when I bought my Red, no one told me "oh, it is only for professionals".

I would have expected that a camera which costs $18,000 should have a better warranty than a camera which costs $5,000.

But maybe that's just me...

I had a problem earlier this year with stitched vertical lines through the footage that started only after the camera was out of warranty. It was also a problem relating to overheating that would only appear when the camera started to heat up, and got significantly worse / more obvious over time. I ended up spending $3625 for a new analogue to digital converter. I don't believe that is part of the M-X upgrade, so just make sure that replacing the M with a new sensor will actually fix the problem. Hopefully you don't get stuck with that extra bill like me!

Hi,

Your problem is that you are used to buying equipment in the EU & being protected by EU laws. That's one of the reasons why things are generally cheaper in the states.
