Hi!

It is the first time that I try to output my red one mx (second hand) via HD-SDI (with the element technica breakout box), but I cant get a signal on any monitor I tried.
I am using also the hdmi por with a smallhd dp4, wich works great. But I can´t make that hdmi output work on other monitors, big or small.

What am I missing?

Thank you very much guys!

Maybe try take off the elements breakout box and test the signal.
the hdmi port is non standard so the r1 can be picky on what monitors it wants to work on.
Also it never hurts to try reinstall the firmware

You need to troubleshoot.

First I assume you have verified the cable and the monitors are working with another HD-SDI source?

Even if they do work, it's worth trying with another cable - make sure it's not a very long cable and is rated for HD-SDI. HD signals don't travel as far as SD-SDI, and old BNC cable may be more lossy than HD-SDI cable. I've even seen BNC connectors with unusually thin centre pins which may not make good contact.

Also, the Red One only puts out 720p for live feed - not all monitors can handle 720p, or may have trouble with 24/25/30Hz output.

Thank you for your replies!

I have tried several cables and monitors, via hdmi and hd-sdi. I first found this, sadly, during a shooting. We were using a Scarlet as well wich had no problem sending in live feed, but I couldnt find a way to send a signal. I tried several cables right there, and after that, for another shooting, I spend an hour trying monitors (via hdmi and sdi) at the rental house, with no luck. It wasnt a rental house specialized in Red One, but... I really don´t know, and been unable to provide a feed may be a deal breaker on many rentals.

May it be the breakout box? Is there any other kind of adapter to regular bnc? I can´t find it.

Thanks again!

The breakout box BNCs have been known to fail (check the centre contacts aren't splayed out or dirty), although it'd be unlikely for all the BNCs to fail simultaneously!
Also check the breakout box is fully seated (flush with the body), and the round ended DIN socket release pin on the side is fully pushed in.

If you or a technician are handy with DIY and soldering you can even replace the BNCs yourself!

Or buy Red's breakout cable:

Or I have a several of these Red cables for sale for about £15 - Approx USD 26 / Euro 19 - probably only worthwhile if you're in the UK or possibly in the EU in terms of total cost/speed of delivery.
