I seemed to have inherited a cursed Red One MX. Anyways, it was damaged during shipping today and I was wondering if anyone had experiences with Red repairing a smashed rear LCD/control area. Attached are photos. Any guesses on costs for this kind of repair? I hate posting these kinds of pics.

That one is gonna cost ya. . . if you're aiming for pristine again, at least. But be happy it wasn't sensor damage. That's where the serious money resides.

RED has the answers.

Good luck!

Stephen

Ironically this camera does have sensor damage...like I said cursed.

Wow, even the aluminum on the back is cracked. I seen a redone fall from a 5tt drop and nothing happen. There might be some boards damaged too. Who shipped it?

It was shipped via Fedex, I am in the process of filing a claim.

Yikes - looks like a sell-for-parts type of situation. Would probably cost more to repair than to replace. That's sad I love our Elmo (serial 2888) and it would break my heart to see him injured like that. Fed-Ex should definitely pay.

Ohw......Sorry to hear that... ...
and very thin Aluminium cover for REDONE? :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed:

Sorry William Lu...

Ouch!!

I guess you can file a claim with FedEx, but they're going to want to see the packaging. And I would too. All their claims coverage hinges on items being properly packed for shipment. And I can tell you right now that I'm 90% sure this camera wasn't properly packed. Not with damage like that. The RED One is a tank and I have seen them tumble down stairs, fall off walls, etc.. A properly packed camera (or anything else) should be just fine with being thrown off the back of a delivery truck at 40mph. Just sayin'

Based on a couple of the other scuffs and dings I can make out on the body, I'm wondering if the damage truly did occur during shipping...? Seriously, I'd have to set a RED One on the floor and hold it with my foot while I smacked it in the ass with a sledge if I wanted to do that sort of damage. That or they skewered the box it was packed in with a forklift... Actually had that happen to me about a year ago. Had a few 55" displays on a palette going FedEx Freight. Some forklift jockey missed and ran the forks through the bottom 1.5" of the monitor boxes. Mostly got foam, but scuffed the plastic bezels on two displays and cracked the screen on the one closest to the forklift as it took the thickest part of the forks. Oh well, [sh]it happens...

Fedex ripped a hole in an anvil case full of master primes I was shipping a few years back. Those guys are crazy! How they did that would fall under the gross negligence category.

Poohh ! not packed well when shipping, that seems so serious damage. i have to take care of my own BT Tank

honestly...

its probably gunna cost more than its worth to fix at this point...

id file an insurance claim... cut your loses and buy a mk3 or blackmagic...

no sense in spending 8k+ for a scarlet or 20k for an epic.. when camera tech is on non stop development stage...
cameras are disposable now... invest in glass.. get a cheap but good sensor block... shoot the shit out of it for a year.. hopefully make your money back on it.. and prepare to upgrade to the next model in april 2014..

theres honestly too many cameras out there which have flooded the rental market.. so if you ever do need highspeed or a big ass 5k image... rent an epic for 300 bucks a day (no joke.. this is what i have been seeing them go for on craigslist)
