Does anyone know of any other options for repairing a RED One other than sending it in to RED. My concern is that I've heard repairs can be quite expensive and with the low price of used cameras it might be cheaper to just buy another camera, unless there were a less expensive alternative.

Any suggestions?

Unlikely, unless it's something simple like a connector on the body or a mechanical issue. Almost everything else is on proprietary circuit boards inside. They are almost certainly multilayer boards which are often not economic to repair, and have to be replaced instead.

Cost of repair will depend a lot on exactly what your fault is. Maybe if you post more information, we or Red can advise further.

The camera began to reboot on it's own a few times. Then began to hang up occasionally during booting on the "Current VPF" line. I re-installed the firmware and it didn't help. Then it would freeze up after successfully booting up. It seemed that setting the fan to HOT solved the problem for a while.

The camera now hangs up while booting on the Current VPF line. It seems like it might be a power board issue because the fan seems to almost cut out when the red light comes us briefly during booting when it hangs up. It almost sounds like the power drops voltage or something.

I've tried disconnecting everything. I'm about to send it in to RED but I fear that the cost will be more than the camera is worth.

Thanks in advance.

Shipping back and forth if you're on the other side of the world (as I am) is quite expensive. And if you have to replace an entire board or so would be expensive too. But other than that I found the Red repair prices very reasonable. I had a power switch repaired for around 150 USD including service labor and parts.

Have you contacted the bomb squad rep? Perhaps this is a known issue and they can help resolve it. Otherwise, I'm out of suggestions. Sounds like it could be an internal issue.

I have contacted them and I'm about to send it in actually. I'm hoping like hell I don't get a repair estimate of $3-4k.

Everyone wish me luck. lol

UPDATE

RED service rocks! I was worried for no reason at all. Less than $400 and my camera is as good as new.

Thanks RED!
