With the new line of RED cameras on the horizon, is it likely Jim will drop the price on the RED One?

It's going to be replaced as I see it. I don't see them dropping the price... they'll either get your money now or later. No need to drop the price.

If they're offering this Mysterium-X sensor for a TBA price to current RED One owners, are they really going to replace the RED One any time soon?

I don't see a price drop - R1 is still a bargain. I don't see them phasing out the R1 either. Just look at how it fits with the DSMC/EPIC/SCARLET options. R1 is a different beast to some extent and will be a fine camera as long as they continue to upgrade its abilities too. For me, I think it makes sense if RED will treat the R1 in the future as a SCARLET S35 that just happens to have the I/O, power, media and control modules all stuffed into the same box.

Absolutely. The R1 is a great camera. And it's the beast of 2008, a treat in 2009, and still a honey for 2010. Just ask a R1 owner right now if they're pissed off with what they've created so far. A price drop is unnecessary. It's a kick-ass piece of kit!

Though a sensor upgrade for R1 owners should be discounted somehow!

I see the R1 being phased out soon. I just canceled our orders for 4401 and 4402 today.

The point is : who would order a Red One now? The announcement can have a paradoxical effect on RED's sales.

Its a 100% trade-in of RED ONE body to EPIC, what's to lose? If you wait for EPIC, then you lose out on shooting today.

You have to do what is right for you. I am happy I own the RED ONE now. It sounds like I get first crack at EPIC and 100% trade-in vs. non RED ONE owners. My only complaint is that I wish I would have jumped on RED ONE sooner so I would not have to wait as long.

In my case I already have a RED One... I canceled the order today for 2 more bodies. I cannot afford to upgrade two more RED Ones to Epic and I cannot afford the accessories. The way I see it you will need about 4 new accessories to use an Epic. The cost of the camera is significantly higher because of this. Its not just $10,500 to upgrade to the most affordable body.

facetmedia, you fu'&ed up.

How so? BTW I'm not saying RED should drop the price... We just cannot afford to upgrade multiple RED One camera bodies. Going with one epic and 2 Scarlet 6k's is a better option for us.

You cancelled two of the best cams you could of bought. That's how you F'D.

I still plan on getting a RED One, but with the Pound being as weak as it currently is, it's pushed the cost of a RED One up to over £12,500... and it ain't getting any cheaper. I simply can't justify spending that sort of cash at the moment.

LOL... I think anyone purchasing a RED One can get it shipped relatively quickly. I feel happy as hell I canceled the other two RED Ones. I would hate to purchase into an obsolete body and furthermore obsolete accessories.

Yep, agree. Much easier to have same components, and just put them in to different boxes :) ... and maybe the R1 will become lighter and draw less power if they slim-line the amount of electronics inside.
