As of now in the red store, the RED one with the Mysterium X sensor is priced at 25k. I understand that the EPIC-X is only going to be 3k more than the Red one Mysterium X (at 28k) and the EPIC-S which also shoots 5k and has HDRx™ included will be priced at around 12k, so it would only seem logical that after the release of both EPIC-X and EPIC-S that the price of the Red one would have to drop below 12k...or am I missing something here?

Thanks

Maybe it will go out of production?
Maybe it will be a filmschool only-item?
Maybe Jim has a deal with Martians?
Maybe, maybe, maybe...

I will be shooting happily with my R1-M on occations, years after I get the Epic-X, though...

again.. epic-s is 12k for BRAIN ONLY...
most likely after you get all the modules you will need.. your looking closer to 20k for a production workable Epic-S

The Mysterium X only includes small accessories with it ((1) SD CARD, (1) mini-BNC to DIN 1.0/2.3 cable, (1) mini-XLR to mini-XLR cable, (1) mini-XLR to XLR adaptor, and BOLT SET) so it might as well just be the brain as well...Once you get all the modules for the Mysterium X you're looking at around 40-50k or higher...

I recon the EPIC-S costs the same as MX (25K) - except, that is EPIC-S shooting config vs. MX brain. What that means for MX price...well, package deals for just about the same as EPIC-S is going to be necessary to persuade people; at least once you can order an EPIC-S with accessories and get it without anything on backorder!

I heard NASA is going to buy all future production of the R-1 to run their manned mission to Mars. RED tried to sell them Epics instead but they said they are only going to Mars and back, so the R-1 should be sufficient. They are trying to work a deal for the returned R-1s from the stage 3 program in order to save money.

This suggests to me that there may be a new market for the R-1 as re-purposed super computers
