Hi there, i'm looking for a person or rental house that may be interested in swapping positions for delivery of a Red One.

I am currently waiting for #4251 and a have a project looming early October for which I need it.

Is there anyone waiting for a Red One #3000 or less who would prefer to take a later delivery date.

I have contacted Jon@Red and he has confirmed to me that Red will happily carry out the position swap providing both parties agree.

Kind regards,

Murray

No, it shouldn't. Both parties prosper from the deal without any further incentive: The one getting the lower number gets his/her camera earlier; the other one has more time to get the financing in place.

IMHO, all this selling-my-Red-for-a-premium stuff is undermining the great spirit behind Red. Imagine if Red was asking every single time "Whats innit for me?"

Nope - the spirit of Murray's idea is that both parties gain.

The problem is that everyone between Mr3000 and Murray gets screwed just a little. If Mr3000 couldnt come up with the financing in time they would normally all get their cameras one slot number earlier. If Murray is allowed to jump the queue then they are worse off than the case where Murray is not allowed.

So given that this kind of 'trade' is not directly supported by Red at this time, I would say the 1000 others are more entitled to their early camera than Murray.

I think this kind of just settled itself then. No tradeing, switching or jumping.. You get it when you get it, and if you need one sooner, then rent.

It was a cool thought though.. Just not compatible with reality I guess

If swap is possible I've ordered a red sn. 4353 and I really need one for a project in september. I'm ready to take the delivery if someone wants to swap his/her reservation send me a PM.
Thanks.

Position swaps have been successfuly done and its sad you are advocating stopping the practice - because the rental cost for my October project would amount to the cost of buying the RED in the first place. So now my only alternative is to offer a 'financial incentive' as you originally implied Jay, but it kind of defeats the spirit of being a RED member as Martin said. So anyone out there willing to swap for a financial incentive $$$$ please get in touch - but hopefully there is still someone willing to swap to help their own position.

I am actually quite surprised that you say "RED" is supporting this. Although I am aware that the RED sales reps are quite helpful in allowing a given Camera and reservation to be "shipped" to any address... they have told me on numerous occasions that the name on the reservation is not and I mean NOT transferable under any circumstances. I would suggest anyone reading this thread to confirm with their sales rep ( or the one quoted) to see if this is possible before committing to a position on whether it is a good practice or not.

Hi Kevin,

By all means check with RED but in my communications with Jon at RED I qoute as follows;

''The idea of a reservation swap has been done, between two agreeable parties. We don't act as an agent for the process, but are willing to accommodate parties having mutual consent. Your best approach will most likely be through the reduser forum...The community has been extraordinary in its support and response so this may be a very real solution for you. There may be reservation holders that are unable to pay for their cameras now or don't have an immediate project currently that would be happy to work something out with you. If you are able to make progress in working out a swap, we will do everything we can to help you get your camera sooner''.

So from my perspective we are not advocating anything underhand and I hope this clears up any ambiguity on the process of position swaps.

Kind regards

Murray

hmm. It's just odd because this seems different than any policy we've heard of before. But if this is the case, I will swap my #3413 and/or #3895 (both delivered in Oct.) for a number in the later 4000's. This would need to include a financial incentive of some sort. Send a PM.

How do you guys have your exact number even in the 4000's?

After I placed an order I received no serial number, just a confirmation of purchase.

Thanks

Wait a couple of days and you`ll have your serial number assigned :glare:

Have you logged on to your 'My Account' Section on Reds Site, does it say anything on there about your serial number in the open orders section?

I ordered mine in the morning UK time and by the time the States woke up about 5 hours later i received my Serial Number - this was back at the beginning of May.

Andrew.

Hi all

My serial no is 005106 and placed an order a few days ago. Would love to swap wait list position with anyone who prefers to wait for later delivery.

Thanks

Hi,

Since your camera will ship in November, and it's already October I doubt there will be many people trying to swop reservations in the future.
