  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED-One "Off/On" Switch ??

Yes, THAT is exactly what I mean.

Origo is a weird looking switch, but if it works, it works.

Thanks.

I don't know of any studio type controls for the RED. The Viewfactor Origo and the Impero/Inclino are the only devices that I know of that can trigger REC Start/Stop on the RED.

Having worked in live broadcast TV the handle mount controls are comfortable for me. I'm used to doing everything, so having a focus puller is a bit different.

I don't know if Red's policy has changed, but a warning was issued about the Origo because it was bricking some cameras.

Best to check with Red to make sure it does not invalidate your warranty.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

I have always thought that this was an item that should be made by Red.

Soon it will be.

A 4 pin lemo connector, some wire and any push-to-make switch is all you need. If you're a radio-shack kind of guy you can do this for beer money :)

Sounds good to me. I like Radio Shack too. But, what "exactly" is a 4 pin "lemo" connector ?

Thanks.

If you check the user manual for the Red One it gives a part number and pin-outs for the 4 pin connector you need to make up a cable that fits the GPIO ports on the camera body. FGG.0B.304.CLAD52 is the number I have noted, but best to check first. Lemo is the manufacturer of the various robust push-pull connectors used on the Red One. Good quality connectors, but not very cheap. I don't know where you'd buy them in America, I'm in the UK, but www.lemo.com would seem to be the place t start.

Using the pinouts in the Red manual pdf you make a cable that has a push to make switch commoning together the two appropriate pins. You then set the camera to use the GPIO trigger to start and stop record. You can also use it to do other stuff, like trigger the start of a ramped slomo for example.
