  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED One / Mysterium Spectral Response curves:

Amazing! Almost ideal theoretical response in each channel.

So, how do you guys propose improving on this, huh?

Posted in response to a bit of a challenge on CML. I'm curious to compare this to others' findings.

Deanan, is the RED curve rising in the left related to the IR sensitivity? Any chance this could be dealt with in a SW (cutting off all red frequency response bellow 510...)?

The Red curve to the left is not related to IR as it's well before the IR range.

Thank you for posting that!

For comparison here's the Genesis one compared to film.

Deanan,

On both graphs it says "Mysterium" - so what is the difference in chips? Is one the currently shipping one, and the other the upcoming X version?

One is normalized and the other is showing the actual response. It's the same data graphed differently.

So what does this mean? What are we suppsed to take away from looking at spectral graphs?

It means that they are as you would expect/hope they would be... not what some misguided soul posted on CML.

We would have posted these sooner, but we have "been a bit busy" lately.

Anyone have any spectral curves from other cameras?

The genesis and 5218 curves overlaid with the red curves:

OK, looking at the image reality posted, it makes sense now why red looks so filmic. The curves look very close to film and close to Genesis also.

Film's spectral response "curves" get a lot more complicated. There can be 3 or 4 color layers, and the layers block each other and the transfer function is not linear.

Would I be correct in saying that it looks like the Genesis would be more sensitive to infrared issues?

I don't suppose anybody has tested that.

Hi

I've looked at the curves and they (to my lay brain) look smooth and near ideal.

However I am finding the camera sensitive to magenta/green swings in HMI lights. My experience is very anecdotal and I would be delighted to find my 'user error'. For example perhaps I have just had a bit of bad luck with the lights I have been using lately and didn't have the sense to know this at the time.

Are the spectral response curves posted inconsistent with an extra magenta/green sensitivity.

thanks

Michael

PS Thanks for posting the charts!

PPS Does anyone have charts for a F900R?

OK, but what does mean normalisation here, what´s the normalisation function, and how is it achieved?
Couldn't we simply call it a gain in blue chanel? (and bit of it in green, or negative gain in red, or whatever)
