Hi guys I been using BMPCC for few years and using raw is just way to go for me. The RED One MX is still an amazing camera. This video by Mattias Burling explains why you should get a ROMX. They are still amazing cameras. And the fact that the kit includes so much in. It is a steal (thats if you get it for a good price)

This is coming up a lot lately between this forum and BMCuser.com with people looking to move up a notch from something like the BMPCC. I have both and they are great in their own ways.

I've been tempted to start a R1 fan page where people can post tips and tricks as well as footage, films they have done. R1 is almost at the decade mark. If you count when deposits went in, we're there. If there is enough interest, I'll see if I can put something together.

I recently bought a R1MX while waiting for the Scarlet-W to ship. Entirely unplanned, but got offered a shoot-ready package from a local rental house in Copenhagen for only $800. Still under 400 hours on it as well, so decided to do a little experimenting and history appreciation for a few months. In short, I was blown away. In fact you can argue that the Red One MX has a look slightly more reminiscent of 35mm film as its not quite as tack sharp as th newer systems. Rich, creamy, flattering color science and still possible to shoot 120fps and was able to use the images commercially on a fashion brand shoot. Just find one that has low hours and a good tripod head. For what you've described, I would say that the R1 is ideal for you. A foot in the door in to the red ecosystem with the power of Red's raw workflow...Just be prepared to invest more into Red within a years time. You won't be able to resist upgrading once you've had a taste for it. All things considered...go for it. Absolutely. Red One is the perfect welcome drink at the Red party. And it's a big one.

What? $800 for a full package? That's insane. I would have bought that in a heartbeat for that price. Backup camera, B Cam, etc.

800 dam I will give u 2k for it plus shipping if you ever plan to sell think of me I got kids man :)

I think a used Scarlet MX is just about free nowadays, lol.

Dino, the only thing that will make your life much better would be to get a SSD side module, SSD card reader and some SSDs. The CF cards are pretty small and the red drives are scary.

why are red dives scary? do you see any problems with using Yahisca CY prime lenses on mx i am thinking C/Y adapters on Canon mounts any infinity focus issues? since my lenses are older and i hear this 4k lenses what does this actually mean do i need lenses specifically made for 4k shooting

Thanks guys

I recently picked up the Leitax RED ONE EF mount (That can also take PL). I'm having C/Y lenses Leitaxed and also adapting other lenses. So far I have Pentax M42s, Nikon 35-70, Nikon 50 F1.2, 105 F2.5. That's one way to go.

so you will have ef mount on red while cy adapter on lens attached to ef mount?

If shooting where there may be vibration, get a Red Drive shock mount (or improvise a way to isolate the drive a bit) - Element Technica used to make them, but secondhand ones do pop up.

I'm also looking to purchase a Red One MX. I see decent deals on here, but most cant/dont ship batteries. Other than that, I do prefer the One MX look to the newer models. It does look a tad more filmy. I do see prices going a bit high on Ebay in the States. I see Mysterium packages going as high as $7000, and some X with no real pluses like SSD mods and mags going for 6k so ebay has been a pretty big let down. So I'd definitely look at purchasing from a reduser.

Scarlet X are going pretty cheap, but it's just not an enticing piece of equipment for me at the $6k range. I'd argue Red One was Reds flagship, as is Epic. Scarlet is something else entirely. But if I see a scarlet package drop to $4k i'd probably pick it up over Red One MX SSD and then buy a Red One MX SSD later ;)
