RED ONE MX Shooting Package Using Only RED Accessories For $8500 - Possible?

It depends on what resolution and Redcode you choose. Look up a data rate chart to find precise numbers.

You can't use just any CF card. It will have to be a compatible high-speed variant, like a Lexmark.

Garrett, I heard that the Red One CF module will only accept RED CF cards. Have you gotten any non-RED CF cards to work in a RED one CF module? Thanks.

The bigger problem is going to be finding RED ONE accessories soon. Since the price drop, a few of my friends have sold ALL of their old RED Accessories in 24-hours that they haven't been able to sell in 2 years and just forget about Birger/Impero and PL glass.

All I'll say is get stuff while you can.

A lot of these questions have already been answered in recent threads since the $4K price announcement, but here goes...

- The R1 body is approximately 12" long and weighs 10 lbs. without any accessories or lens attached.
- You will need a lens, power, recording media, a monitoring device, and a way to attach it to a tripod (or a handheld rig) to start shooting
- No SSD media is included at the $4K price...but the body does come with the SSD module attached that the media plugs into
- You can only use RED-brand SSD media mags, you can't use any third party SSD drives at all. As I said above, the RED Mag SSD cartridges plug into the SSD module which is attached to the side of the camera body
- The R1 has a full complement of buttons and joystick controls on the back of the camera body which let you control the camera operation. There are also a few programmable buttons elsewhere on the body. The body also has a small LCD readout that shows all the camera settings (not used for monitoring).
- There is no remote control available, other than a GPIO connection which will allow you to remote start/stop the camera and also initiate recording. This requires a third-party controller.
- Battery & power options are standard AB or V-Mount, but require a battery plate to RED Lemo connector adapter...several companies, including RED, make these
- The Allstar A-mount is the most versatile lens system for the R1. It allows you to connect PL, Nikon, Leica, Contax, BNCR, M42, OCT19, and Hasselblad lenses using adapters: http://allstar-cine.myweb.hinet.net/html/red_accessories/A_Mr.htm A-Mount is fully approved by RED and does not affect your warranty.
- The R1MX uses the same sensor as Epic and performs very well in low light. Usable range is at least 11 stops of exposure
- There are 4 channels of audio built in to the body. These can be either mic or line level and can supply phantom power to microphones
- Monitoring is done either through a RED EVF or Bomb EVF, a RED LCD (not the touch LCD of the Epic/Scarlet), or a third-party monitor connected via HDMI or HD-SDI

Those are the basics. Of course you need to consider things like rods, handles and accessory mounting hardware, along with matteboxes, follow focuses, dovetails, shoulder rigs, etc. to create a complete shooting package.

Hi, i´ve buyed the refurbished R1MX, and for the moment, i want to use blackmagic hyperdeck shuttle to record uncompresed hd via SDi or HDMI, i readed all the manual and forum stuff to find the rigth way to enable hyperdeck to receive hdmi signal from R1MX, but i´m in a hard problem and i don´t have the issue. Dou you know how can i get a valid signal from R1MX to use my hyperdeck shuttle. Very apreciated.

You'll only get 720p...

Hi Bernardo,

If you set your hyperdesk shuttle to record 720p, and your R1 to output 720p via the HDMI, then you should be able to record uncompressed 720p. The maximum the R1 outputs through its SDI and HDMI connections is 720p, you won't be able to get 1080p. If you're OK with 720p only, I would recommend buying a short SDI lead instead and using that rather than the HDMI out, as the SDI signal is considered much better quality on R1.

Otherwise, do you not have the funds to purchase a couple of Red SSDs? I realise they're expensive but I would say you'll get better value from that than the hyperdeck shuttle and a some normal SSDs.
