Hello all, here are 2 eminem's clip shot on red one mx :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5-yKhDd64s

I saw in a thread that the first one (love the way your lie) was shot with hawk anamorphic, and the second one (not afraid) was shot with Elite anamorphic.

I tried to find a seller for these lenses, but nothing, and even if i'll find i'm pretty sure that i don't have enough to buy them.

My question is: the look of these 2 clip is exactly what i want (i'm talking about the image, texture, sharpness and color, not about the anamorphic look which is really great), so, what lens can i buy to achieve this look?

I have 2.000$ to spend (1500e), i was thinking about a zeiss lens, 35mm f1.4 zf2 (nikon mount, on red one mx), what do you guys think?

Is it a good lens? I used to have it in canon mount, with my 5d3, it's a really really nice lens but how does it marry with the red one mx? i think that, with a clean workflow, i can achieve the eminem look (which looks like Alexa to my eye), any advice?

Thanks!

Okay, in relation to the first part of your posting. The Hawk anamorphic lenses are basically rehoused Lomo Anamorphics which you will find are a lot more easily available and at a very reasonable price too although probably not one you can afford.

In relation to the rest of your posting. The Zeiss lense will obviously have quite a different look to Lomo Anamorphics as you seem to realise yourself. You could try getting hold of a standard Lomo lens, but I note that you have a nikon mount which is going to restrict your choices a fair bit. Maybe you could pick up a set of cheap Nikkor still lenses with your budget. Then you won't be limited to one focal length either! Nikons are certainly sharp!

Thanks for your reply Freya, i also have a Pl mount (in next few days i mean;) ), so hawk anamorphic are optically identical to Lomo?
Perfect, i'll try to find a lomo lens for sale..Do you have any advice about where can i buy one? And at about what price?

This Hawk thing that are Lomo Rehoused is new to me, Freya do you have any reliable source (link) about it?

Thank you! :-)

The Hawk C-Series were based on Lomos. The newer V Series are Vantage's own design.
The Hawks from the first vid to flare real nicely.

I don't think you can even buy a CP.2 for $2,000.

I can't find one single source that makes the statement you are making here about Hawk C based on Lomo.

I would like to know what do you mean with "based on".

It would be really appreciated to have a link, thank you.

He may be basing it off this:

i can't provide a link, but the two guys founding and running vantage were known as the "film buffs" from weiden (a town in northern bavaria close to the czech border) with engineering background and when the iron curtain fell 1989 / 1990 some engineers working @ lomo wanted to go west and vantage asked them to stay in weiden and to continue to design anamorphic lenses. they kind of bought the optical designers of lomo because they were / are so convinced of the concept of shooting anamorphic.

best wishes and kind regards,
martin

Yes of course I meant the older 2x C-Series lenses.
Didn't expect that bit to create such a fuss. I thought this was well known!

Hi Freya,
I was very curious about this fact, because finally i have found something that explain to me the incredible excalation of Lomo Anamorphic prices in the last years.
It also means: nobody is in this business for an affordable anamorphic right now (affordable i mean like a Cooke S4 price).
Hope some lens maker will do something about this ;-)
Thanks everybody for the precious infos, and the x-ray scan.

Love

Jean
